Dig your dog

If you dig your dog
you know that walking
means you have to mind
the butt-hole scents,
left by hounds or mongrels

trace of reek to follow,
modify,
and leave a mark
to be, become
a king of lightposts,
mailbox-ruler,
top-dog in the neighbourhood.

Dog with Sausages
Wilhelm Trübner

Today the Quadrille at dVerse is hosted by De, and the word to inporporate in your poem is dog.

  1. HAH! Love the image! And oh my….well I could talk metaphorically about kings leaving their mark all over town….but let’s stick with the poetry, right?

  2. A fun quadrille, Björn. I miss walking my dog, and he’s been gone over 17 years now. I would love another one, but don’t want to upset Luna the cat.

  3. A good one, Bjorn. You know that all that urine will eventually rust the post away. In our neighborhood, mail box posts have to be replaced because of all the dogs coming down the sidewalk!

  4. This line hit my funny bone with the force of a rather large bark:
    “means you have to mind
    the butt-hole scents”

    Ha! Unexpected delight. Hilarious, Bjorn.

  5. Björn, your poem reminds me of a TT video I saw yesterday of a group of dogs speaking to each other, wondering what their owners were doing with all their poop that they were collecting. Nicely written 👏
