To preserve and sustain,
to survive and evolve,
to conserve
we need the courage and wisdom for
changing with seasons
living today for what works
also tomorrow,
respecting both selves
and our neighbors
be it human or beast
be it water or grass
be it sky or the sea,
always searching for truth
in our senses
being keen to be humble
seeing ourselves as a part
of the love we carry
for each other and earth.
Yet, how come,
that so many of us
have traded
the strength we carry within
for comfort and matters
opposing what’s good
while calling cruelty strength
and compassion a weakness,
believing in prophets
posing as Gods
believing our blessing
can only grow from destruction.

Today Mish hosts with Poetics at dVerse where we ponder the seven sacred teachings of native Americans drawing from mythology represnted by animals. My strongest reaction is that what is the current trend is to doing everying in exactly the oppositve way.
Excellent…..and the switch from the first stanza, living the teachings of the Seven Grandfathers to the second stanza, where sadly, too much of this world is at, is abrupt and slaps you in the face. Exactly as it should.
I just read today that the Environmental Protection Agency, under Trump, has gone from 1500+ scientists to 125….none of which are working on climate change….many of whom have had their jobs shifted from research to something inane, administrative work. It will take decades to come back from what this one man has done.
It seems to be happen globally…. so far I think that many of those scientists now works on state levels instead…
I agree with all that you say in this poem, Björn. How come it makes sense to us and not to the people who have the power in this world?
Because it is easy to package and sell as simple solutions instead of balance and compromise.
I feel this…but I don’t believe I could have expressed it so exquisitely. The shift between stanzas is powerful but so realistic. It is baffling to watch basic morals and principles of humanity flipped on their heads.
It is amazing isn’t it…. really revolting
