November is crawling to its end and this is the last week before Advent when we truly start to measure the time until holidays. Now lights will come up, not in Christmas exuberance but single candles and stately stars in the window. We will be looking carefully at the calendars following the progress into the holidays. It means we dive into our wardrobes for last year’s decorations, maybe even buy new ones. We will feast on cakes and bread and mull the wine. This is a transition into preparations for feasts to come.
dark windows now alit
transitioned into waiting
candles counting days

Today Frank hosts dVerse Haibun Monday at dVerse. This weekend it is the first sunday of Advent which means that we will light the first candle of four to show the passing of time.

Nicely done, Björn. I like the personification of November, ‘crawling to its end’, and the prospect of candles in windows.
It is a bit of a relief when November ends…advent and candles help
I agree.
Very well done holiday focus haibun. To me counting things makes it go slower, not quicker.
But sometimes it is good to extend the waiting.
I can feel that slow progression of time as you move into the holiday season, Bjorn!
The concept of Advent is still here… and I agree on the slowness… we need that.
I love this tradition, Björn. My Swedish grandmother always filled a stocking for me on St. Nicholas Day.
So fun… the filling of stockings though is not a Swedish tradition. Christmas eve is when we get our gifts…. Christmas day morning we would go to church (very early) if we are so incluined
nice haibun, but Linev2 of your haiku is a showstopper BRAVO
much♡love
Thank you… it something special with the darkness in December.
The steady flow of Advent towards its climax wonderfully evoked. Thank you, Bjorn!
Thank you, it is a special season.
The steady flow of Advent towards its anticipated climax is wonderfully evoked. Thank you, Bjorn.
May we have many more feasts!
Make every day a little feast.
That’s a wonderful attitude!
Very nice haibun for the festive season.
We will enter it soon
A lovely Christmassy poem, Bjorn
Or something about waiting for christmas
Yes, the anticipation is often better than the event.
A beautiful haibun, Bjorn.
Thank you
I love your beautiful Haibun about your traditions. Lovely, Bjorn.
Thank you… we love our candles.
Candles counting days – loved that. Made me wonder if I should go get some even though it is our supposed summer with lots of rain and cool temperatures for which I’m grateful!
If you have dark evenings it works independent of temperature I think
I love seeing all the candles in windows. Now of course they have the LED kind so people don’t have to worry so much about starting a fire.
A sense here of the waiting, not rushing but rather preparing in time honoured ways, I love the sense of taking time I find in this.
