Still life with cookies

I don’t need
to be cuddled,caressed
or cajoled by your
comforting kisses

I don’t crave
to be cured from
contagions of crush but

if you coax me
with cookies or candy
forever I’ll be
your captive,controlled
by your cooking —
compliant and calm.

Still life by Czech painter Henriette Lamberger (1859 – ca. 1900)

Today it is Qadrille at dVerse with Lisa. The word is coax and I thought it would be fun to play with the word a little. I swedish we have a saying that says: “the way to a man’s heart goes through his stomach”

  1. I’ve not seen that painting before, or any other painting with cookies in it, and I like it! I also like the way you played with the prompt word and alliteration, Björn. By the way, we too have that saying.

  2. This is exquisitely drawn, Bjorn! I love the idea of “contagions of crush.” I also love coaxing with cookies and candy ❤️❤️

  3. Bjorn, consider me delighted with your poem. Cooking for an appreciative person makes it twice as satisfying. To be cooked for like this would be love doubled (as I doubled in size.)

  4. A most clever quadrille, Bjorn! Of course the captive thing works both ways ~ love me a man who can cook!
