New habits

When wind grew fangs I fetched my winter-coat, my gloves and newsboy cap from the wardrobe. Sufficiently warm I walked alone along the wet streets, swallowing the streetlights. reflecting only my sorrows.

The fall had been tender until the end of October coinciding with our parting. We had measured, we had split and divided leaving us equally dissatisfied.

I am coping with my mind stripped naked, but happy I am not.

Yesterday, I learned to know the love of bare.

November days before the coming of the snow and I was no longer naked. I hid inside my winter coat, and even in my place of gloom I found a semblance of spring.

I turned the corner to find my bar closed but it didn’t matter. Getting drunk alone I can do later at home.

November like this is good to nurture new habits.

Late to the party I link up this piece of prosery ot Kim’s prompt at dVerse where we are using three lines from Robert Frost’s poem My November Guest:

“Not yesterday I learned to know
The love of bare November days
Before the coming of the snow”

A bit challenging to break up in a unique way, but I tried.

  1. I enjoyed your new habits, Björn, and three of us broke the lines up successfully, I think. I love the though of the wind growing fangs; I’ve already donned my winter coat and fingerless gloves – I’m saving the ones with fingers until it gets really cold.

  2. The line break ups worked well with your prosery. Drowning sorrow only requires a bottle. But, somewhere in my mind I hear the song ‘I Drink Alone’ by George Thorogood.

  3. Perfect pairing. The image and your prose. [I have drowned sorrow more than a few times in my life, in a bar ~ in my home.] Shorter days, increasing dark, the cold .. the worst time for breakups and sadness.

  4. HUGE round of applause! Can you hear me clapping. From the first – the image of wind with fangs – Splendid … I love the way you broke your sentence up with grammar – I did as well, but yours is REALLY effective here. Just so good
