Paddle song

To carry boats
the tent our house
traversing hills
lakes and streams
the sudden thrill,
a grouse it seams
protecting chicks
pretending sick,

we meet the lakes
set out in boats
with wind adrift
we let the paddles rest
in this, in nature’s gift
today we’re blessed
in sun above we stay
to gaze at sky
from beach, at bay
together you and I.

Today Trudessa guest hosts at dVerse with a prompt inspired by the poem “The Song My Paddle Sings” by Emily Pauline Johnson. This summer we paddled and hiked in the Swedish mountains using inflatable little boats call pack-rafts.

  1. Love the lilt of rhymes as your paddle sang on this journey. The video was wonderful to watch. I could feel the water. Thanks for sharing.

  2. I love that you get out into nature every year. My son and daughter in law do too, they live for camping and Canada abounds in wonderful lakes and rivers. Your area looks very beautiful. I love the poem and REALLY love the video!

  3. Your poem flows so wonderfully, like gliding over water. First your words take us along, then a video where we are in the boat with you, listening to the paddles dip in blue water with that gorgeous sky overhead! 👏💫

    much♡love

  5. You make us feel the joy and one-ness with earth, sky, water and creature, lovely to experience through your words, Björn.

  6. Thank you thank you for the video clip … it left me wanting more. Your poem describing this adventure on water is quite lovely. Where I live water adventures, forest walks, mountain hikes reign supreme … a rebirth each time.

  7. What an amazing trek it must be wonderful to get out and hike and paddle in the wilderness. Then to write about it later. I’d love to do some kayaking just a bit fearful of the bull sharks in our river lol!!
