I was born far from the sea, and only in November I could sometimes taste the salt in the wind. I grew roots, and settled, and any dreams I might have had were replaced by the daily efforts to put food on the table.
Then one day, I returned home to an empty house. Uprooted and I knew I had to seek the sea, and though I have no skills for flight or wings to skim the waves. Effortlessly, like the wind itself I drifted downstream, from tributaries into rivers and reached the sea in late December.
When gazing at its vastness, I decided to stay, and build myself a hut from driftwood.
I never intended to remain for long. but new roots began to grow as I expanded my hut to a house, a new family, pets, and a steady job was added.
Today Merril host dVerse Prosery, where we are to write a piece of prose including the line:
I have no skills for flight or wings
to skim the waves effortlessly, like the wind itself
From the poem “The Magnificent Frigatebird,” by Ada Limón.

Lill’s story was airborne, mine floated on the ocean, and yours began in the earth and ended up at the sea, Björn! I love the opening sentence, but how sad to only taste salt on the wind in November.
Ah… and I guess it is what had those dreams of leaving growing.
It seems like the sea was where this being was meant to be! I like the sense of flowing along.
Love how you worked the line with punctuation to fit the story here. A nomad who grows roots….I suspect many do.
excellent – and that opening line was my fav…. “born far from the sea,…”
Nicely done to the prompt!!
Ah yes “I decided to stay.” How many can lay claim to following their bliss, taking a chance as you shared in poetry so beautifully ….
An interesting crossroads story, Bjorn.
A story within a story, Bjorn!
Lovely
Everything carried by a river slows down and is deposited where a river reaches the sea and it then builds new land…
Adventureror!!! nice one.
luv the generated image too

how wonderful to grow new roots and live the life that was only imagined before. I love how you told this story. Thanks for sharing. Blessings.
A seamless inclusion Bjorn, and I always love a story of journey and one that is open ended too.
Dreams become s,all very quickly when the reality of the need for food kicks in…a fable of our lives…
