Just a hint of salt
a gentle breeze
sweet and slow
over farmland sea
of rye and wheat
far from ships
and ports where
bread is baked
and rivers die
in ocean surfs
where rain is born
to feed the fields
of growing grains.

Vincent van Gogh
Today Mish hosts the Quadrille at dVerse where we write 44 word poem that has to contain the word hint in the body.

Poem fits the illustration so very well. For me, a sunshiney and positive scene you’re painting with your words.
Love the flow and sway of this and it feels like a refreshing place for our minds to go these days. I could smell the bread!
I love the wordplay in the title, Björn, and the sunny atmosphere created in your quadrille, from the ‘hint of salt’ to the ‘ocean surfs where rain is born’.
I can smell the brine Bjorn – and love the way the poem leads from one thing to another in a game of outcomes
Love the simplicity of this and yet potently evocative. Great imagery.
Bjorn, I love the poem and the image you chose to go with it.
Such motion in your poem. I especially loved the last “and rivers die
in ocean surfs
where rain is born
to feed the fields
of growing grains.”
You paint a beautiful poem with just a hint of Van Gogh’s yellow. 💛
I so love the sense of movement in this one, Bjorn! 😀 Especially this image; “a gentle breeze sweet and slow over farmland sea of rye and wheat far from ships and ports.” Gorgeously rendered! 💙💙
such warming images here tacks me away from the cold of January
Imbibed with the slow, soothing rhythm of yesteryear, when what was immportant had meaning…
You chose a fantastic painting for your poem. Seeing the fields as an ocean, wonderful imagery.
A hint of salt air blowing in the breeze. Your poem is soothing and flows nicely from the different images. An excellent choice of artwork.
I love your description of the wheatfields!
Excellent! Almost a swaying rhythm to the piece where you can feel the breeze blow.
I love and river’s die in oceans surfs. Would be so nice to experience the smell of seas and baked bread…nice.
Lovely!
Your poem greets me as a song. Utterly delightful, Bjorn!
Love how it comes full circle.
That was absolutely beautiful, Bjorn! It fits the picture perfectly!

Lovely poem of the diversity and interdependence of the cycle of nature
I love the thought of this. Beautifully written
where rain is born
to feed the fields
of growing grains.
❤️
Beautiful, Bjorn.
I didn’t even notice the painting until I was done reading. Your words had me picturing a van Gogh painting. He is one of my favorite artists.
It’s wonderful. I love how you only used “hinterland” in the title, but the whole poem refers to it, so the title was just hinting at hinterland.😊 I really like the descriptive nature of your poem, which paints a big picture with just a few words. And the picture is perfect for the poem.
Lovely poem, Björn, and living in the Netherlands Van Gogh seems always present in my life.
A lovely quadrille ~ soothing, beyond words, what I needed to read this morning. Thanks so much for leaving me a comment.
