Cravings

I, shadowless
led by pale cravings
follow
her scent of lavender
and innocence.

Dead yet living,
I cannot help
my yearnings
for the flowers
of her youth.

So close
I sense the veins
beneath her skin
I bare my teeth
anointing her
to vampiredom

  1. So chillingly gothic, Björn. Especially: “Her scent of lavender and innocence” which sensually complements the stark “craving” of Krupa’s artwork.

  2. Your pale cravings are so atmospheric, Björn, tinged with the ‘scent of lavender and innocence’.  I love the final stanza – so dark!

One quick thing, the past tense of ‘to lead’ is ‘led’: ‘led by pale cravings’.

  3. It’s odd how we still claim to get the chills from vampire stories when real men who do much worse than give a girl a peck in the neck are roaming the streets of probably every town. Stay indoors and watch a film—it’s safer!

  4. Hey, Björn, your poem took me through the ages, back to the time I loved reading Gothic fiction! It is very true to the tradition, and is chilling!

I’m so glad I read it. Thanks!
