Rooks in flocks forge homeward,
fresh-snapped twigs in beaks
forest watches, silent, lost for words
only Owl knows the secrets seeked.
Moon girls dance, tiptoe across bogs
in his cave the lonely troll-boy weeps
for being grisly, for the name of Ogg,
but in darkness, is he prince or creep?
Today Melissa hosts with a prompt at dVerse where we either can create a poem from a line from a few selected dVerse poets or writing a cento using lines from different poems written by dVersians in the month of April.
The first two lines of this poem comes from “Just a Dint” Kim M. Russell.

This is absolutely stellar writing, Bjorn! I love how the opening lines from Kim’s poem serve as a springboard and lead to the character sketch of Ogg. 💙💙
Poor Ogg… but at least in darkness he might approach one of the moongirls
Yes!
such an imaginative poem from Kim’s opener – and the rhymes just add to the whole enjoyment of reading this gothic fairy-tale poem
It is based about some fairy tales I read as a youth.
I guessed as much – it has that Norse feel
I like what you’ve done taking the first two lines of Kim’s poem on another adventure. Poor Ogg. Both the poem and the image make me feel sad for him.
Yes.. it cannot be easy to be a poor ugly troll boy (he will be no ones toy boy)
Thank you for spring-boarding off the lines from my poem, Björn, and finding your way to Ogg. I love the repetition of sounds in ‘secrets seeked’(which should be ‘sought’ but it wouldn’t have the same effect!), and the dancing moon girls, but I feel sorry for the ‘lonely troll-boy’. Bing created Ogg as I imagine him!
Yes there are some poetic lines to get the rhymes 🙂 Ogg is a poor misunderstood person
He is. I want to give him a hug.
Oh, well written, Björn…”but in darkness is he prince or creep”
maybe princes turn to trolls when light go out or trolls become princes.
This is especially besutiful:
“fresh-snapped twigs in beaks
forest watches, silent, lost for words
only Owl knows the secrets”
Poor little boy. I love this as a psychological study of boys who might be perceived as something dangerous or ugly, when really they could be precious, tender children who have been hurt or are afraid to be hurt.
Exactly those little boys are often so much more.
I like how Kim’s words fit so well here. I heard them with your voice. I love the moon-girls, but poor Ogg. I think he is a prince.
I do not think the moon-girls will ever see him as a prince… Ogg will accept his destiny and become a librarian.
No doubt he’ll become ancient there. 😉
Bravo, well done!
Thank you… can you please link back to your blog so I can find it 🙂
Everything I publish eventually ends up here:

Thanks for asking!
Good then I know I have read and commented on yours too. 🙂
Oh poor Ogg. I do love your imagination, well done.
Ogg will have to learn.
Well Done!!!
much♡love
Thank you
Oh, I’m looking forward to hearing more about Ogg.
Ogg will likely become a librarian when he grows upp
But Ogg-course! 😉
I think your Ogg is kind of cute!! The lines you chose were perfect for word crafting a cento. Bravo.
He might be cute, but you would not like the reek from his breath.
Aww, I hope he is considered a prince. I like the personification here… “forest watches, silent, lost for words”. Kim’s lines served as a vivid intro to this tale.
Thank you… I really felt that Kim’s line would serve as an intro to a story
A wonderful poem Bjorn!
Thank you
At least the troll boy is not afraid to weep. A good cry does wonders! Great imaginative poem.
Very whimsical, nice. I like your dancing girls . p.s. Thanks for the visit and nice comment. We’ve been retired 25 ( Mrs. Jim) and 23 (myself) years and have fairly well finished our desire to travel. We have visited at least 82 countries. My list, JIM’S LITTLE HAPPY PLACE: Countries where I have been, 82 of them (jimmiehov3.blogspot.com).
This is so cool Bjorn. 🌷
I love, love, love this, Björn! You have the most wonderful imagination. ❤️
You took the lines from Kim and owned them, Björn! Such a great character sketch of Ogg.
