Wishful thinking

A leap of faith
to see, believe
in feathered hope
freed from ropes
for chance to bring
a bliss to sing
but in too deep
we fall bereaved
from grace; from joy;
we hope in vain
to simply cope
for strain to snap
to soothe the pain
so we may take
a leap of faith
… again
… again
… again

another leap of faith, AI painting by bing

Today Lisa hosts at dVerse to celebrate that we are in a leap-year things that deals with leap… I got hooked on the expression leap of faith, and thought about how much optimism ends up in the wrong place.

  1. This is exquisitely woven, Bjorn! I resonate with the idea of one feeling strained and longing for the pain to soothe so that they might leap again 🩷🩷

  2. Love the leap of faith, whether in feathered hopes or pain. I checked my prior poem and have used this one. That AI image fits your poem.

  3. I love that you got hooked on ‘a leap of faith’, Björn; it’s something we all take, especially as writers and artists. I also like the idea of ‘feathered hope / freed from ropes’.

  4. Bjorn, I love your ditty. The ending shows that we really have no choice but to leap again again again. It’s either that or curl up in fetal position in the root cellar.

Wow I just looked again at your image and see all of those other figures leaping. Somehow it lessens the loneliness.

  5. The Tarot Fool makes this leap of faith and maybe it’s his hope we get infected with … but then, no flying with leaping … No fullness without crashing.

  6. I like this Björn. I’m perhaps more of a optimist, to keep on hoping.

One of the theaters in Philadelphia that we subscribe to, does a “leap of faith.” Subscribe at a discount now before the season’s plays are announced.

  7. I notice the way the rhyme-scheme - set at the start – disintegrates interestingly and appropriately as the words leap more wildly into the tricksy chaos of uncertainty – like life.

Thank you to taking us on this journey; may we survive well and softly…

  8. “for chance to bring.”

I think that faith has a lot to do with hope and potential; also, trust in G-d that things will turn out His way, not necessarily the way we expected. My disappointments have always been because of my own expectations. It’s only when I recognize my limitations, that I cannot make things happen the way I would like, that I can allow room for G-d to act according to His will in my life.

  9. A leap of faith can end up going either way it seems. As Tzvi said, our expectations and anticipation when taking the leap of faith can leave us empty rather resting in the understanding of what we cannot know or make happen.

  10. That the leap of faith is one that is continually repeated is surely true, by grace “to see, believe/in feathered hope” — how beautiful with resonances to Emily Dickinson.
