Lured by Bolero
we were taught
about that, what
makes men into boys
to the power of ten.
A very brief second poem for Kim’s prompt at dVerse where I celebrate the momory of how everyone started to listen to Bolero after the film 10 starring Bo Derek.

Dudley Moore is one of those actors that make you laugh without saying a word, but in this case it’s all too easy to see why he’s speechless. The effect on young boys would be “to the power of ten” indeed!
I think that is what happened… and afterwards we all added Bolero to our record collection.
😂
Apparently we were not the only ones… this is what wikipedia says, the movie resulted in massive sales, generated an estimated $1 million in royalties and briefly made Ravel the best-selling classical composer 40 years after his death.
Hilarious! I’m going to put it in my catalog of musical history facts that you want to introduce at just the right time. 🙂
You made me chuckle, Björn!
That was the intention…
Hahaha I absolutely love this! Beautifully done, Bjorn 🩷🩷
I assume you are too young to have seen that film… but it for sure made an impression on a young man.
Bolero, the build up. Very sex-conventional, I’ll give it that. Prokofiev, now that makes for a good f***.
Ha… yes some things are more Vanilla than others.
Oh that is funny, I guess that’s one way to introduce the classics!
🤭
I’m smiling…(K)
Coming of age was an exciting time. She definitely helped for many young boys!
I remember when that was all the rage.
A great film indeed! Never understood the Bolero thing, but Moore had some funny scenes with Julie Andrews.
As did I! Great piece of music. There’s a ballet choreographed particularly for Bolero – too beautiful. https://www.bejart.ch/en/ballet/bolero/
Cool buddy!
When Torvill and Dean skated to it, the entire world believed they were making a beautiful kind of love. The movie 10 was a boy’s delightful pleasure. Short and oh so sweet, Bjorn.
Excellent choice, Bjorn! For me it was not the movie, there was an icecream named Bolero which was my favourite, which prompted me into listening.
I have never heard about that ice-cream… 🙂
It was made by a Yugoslavian ice-cream company of the early 90’s called Pekabela. The ice cream itself was triple chocolate, outside crunchy coating, chocolate icecream, and in the middle a core of this caramel-like textured chocolate, that was chewy and tasted always kind of heavy and dusty. That was Bolero 🙂 It was discontinued in the early 2000s, remodeled later to an icecream called Macho, which pales in comparison, mostly because the chocolate core is completely different and does not taste good at all (and for me personally, adding chopped walnuts to the coating of chocolate. Not bad just not Bolero!) Hope you enjoy my icecream trivia, sorry if I bore you!
Don’t bogart that joint, Bo Derek . . .
pass it over to Dudley some Moore 😎
