this saddest date
tests detest
ahead
the heated hate
at haste, at haste
as assets heisted
estates, the sheds
stashed at haste
detested deeds
the hated hats
heads heeds shade
sedated hate
ash sheets deads
the date
the date
a sated taste
as state is hades
Today I host dVerse MTB at dVerse where we try out a form of limiting ourselves to only include certain letters. The letters allowed are only those included in the title.
Join us at tonight at 9 PM CET
This poem is written about the November Progrom of Nazi Germany which was 85 years ago today. Once again Jews have to hide all across the world.
November 9, 2023

Good choice of a title Bjorn. Love that: saddest date, heated hate, sedated hate, with the conclusion of: as state is hades.
I think it almost worked out.
Great choice of word, Björn. I like the repetition and ‘the heated hate’.
I think repetition is allowed for effect…
Bravo!!! A date no one escspes
Much🖤love
I think we should remember
I enjoyed your choices of repetition.
With so few word to choose from repetition were necessary.
The image you chose is truly haunting, Bjorn. It reminds me of photos of smiling crowds standing around the bodies of lynched black men. Humans are animals, and that is no offense to animals. We are depraved because WE KNOW BETTER!
Indeed… and I think this is coming back.
Very cleverly written, the repetition and such a heavy mood.
I think some things needs to be repeated.
The date, the date – is haunting – hate is evil….interesting prompt – thanks for hosting
It is a great prompt… I recommend the use of online tools for playing scrabbles
I made my list then used google for a bit of assistance but, that didn’t give me words using the same letter more than once. I used to love to play scrabble. I think I still have the board game.
Phew! What a challenge you set for us Bjorn! Enjoyed your clever poem!
Thank you… It was a bit hard for me as well…
This seems incredibly difficult… how did you pick the title word? It offered good options to frame your poem.
I actually googled for word containing x wovels and y consonants… 🙂 Then I used scrabble tools to find words that only used those letters (I actually entered every letter twice in the tool)
It more than “almost worked out” Björn – it is a very coherent poem with its sombre subject running right through…
Thank you, it was a process, but I used online tools to support the process.
Oh me too or it would have taken me a day to write…
Fantastic and awful. You know what I mean…
I know… I whink that we all know.
Wow, difficult prompt, but you conveyed a message so clearly – deaths, so sad ….. thank you for the challenge, I tried for light hearted …..

Finding as many words as possible was really the best thing
I really admire the way in which you wrangled the prompt, you made it seem so easy! The cadence of the poem makes me think of a newspaper boy shouting headlines into the crowd; with such few carefully selected words the poem makes me heed and think.
I like that image, and with the news it is really disturbing…. just like it does when we just see the headlines.
Thanks for setting an example!
I tried my best… 🙂
The image, the words, tone of your poem … sobering. Thank you for making me use my brain OVERTIME! I did enjoy this challenge.
I thought it challlenging as well, but once I got to an exhausting list it made sense.
A powerful write in a challenging form to commemorate the 85th anniversary of Kristallnacht. And yes, sadly and horrifically antisemitism is on rearing its ugly head again.
Starting from deaths as the title I pretty soon came to date and realized what day it was…

You make the form look easy while stretching our muscles to MTB! Truly, the topic is saddening in light of current events around the world.
It started with me selecting the word deaths…
You’ve captured a lot of pending thoughts surrounding death in this. Thank you for this prompt. It gave me a charge I haven’t felt in awhile.
I am glad for that, sometimes it is good trying to limit yourself by just pondering a single word (both in meaning and in sounds)
Yes, a way to let go and find.
Bjorn – wow, just wow. I read the posts from Mr. Linky in a somewhat random fashion and just got to yours – it is so powerful and meaningful, and there are so many layers, and detail, as in “hated hats”. You’ve definitely scored a win for poetry as protest. And I agree that the repetition really works.
Thank you, I really enjoyed doing it
