Smothered, Missed

I miss the heavens
of a boldly shaded sky
I miss the glow of sunsets
with hues of rose and tangerine
instead, I idle
smothered underneath
this rotting gloom
of thawing dusk.
I miss the glassy sheen
of snow in March
beyond the equinox.

The Gloomy Day (January)
Pieter Bruegel the Elder

  1. I love the choice of image, Björn, which illustrates your ‘rotting gloom of thawing dusk’ and the feeling of being smothered so well. I’ve crossed my fingers that there will be no ‘glassy sheen of snow in March’ – or indeed before.

  2. You also had red and orange in your poem. I also look forward to post-equinox March and its glassy sheen. Good image to go with your poem. He does gloomy very well.

  3. We’ve recently become (almost completely) snowless here, too; though today was more than merely sunless. It was friggin D.A.R.K.
    Fine work Bjorn. Thanks.

  4. …missing the sun in Sweden’s dark and cold winters….hard to believe because when we were there it was so gorgeous! A land of opposites.

  5. Michigan too, is the dark days of gray skies. Yesterday, we had sunshine. No snow. I can’t remember the last time it was sunny. This was such a good capture of the season and the mood.

  6. Your writer probably wouldn’t like the Houston, Texas area. We seldom have snow, once in every 10 years I was told. I’ve lived here for 60 years and we have had three that I remember, could be four.
