Fear and desire

The dusk tonight has razor claws
but sneaks upon you, supple, soft
as failing embers brings your frost

Secluded in her fluffy paws
she brings you comfort, wine, and warmth
and wraps you softly in her arms

She meets you humbly veiled in gauze
to hide her bruises, scars, and rash
around your neck, she wraps a sash

Behind her whisper waits the jaws
to rip your larynx, open veins
to break your bones, provoking pain

Your nightmares, visions she’s the cause
the reason for your being, life
a night in dreams, your lover, wife

The dusk tonight has razor claws
secluded in her fluffy paws.
she meets you humbly veiled in gauze
behind her whisper waits the jaws
your nightmares, visions she’s the cause

  1. Oh, very dark, Bjorn! Your dark and dangerous women are always a delight to meet poetically, but I’m not sure I’d like to meet her in a dark alley.

  2. Whew, that is some razor claws to cause pain and nightmares. 4th stanza is particularly sharp. Love the build up of the emotions, in this new form. Thanks for hosting.

  3. This is deliciously dark and enticing, Bjorn! 😀 I admire the smooth progression of the poem especially; “Secluded in her fluffy paws/she brings you comfort, wine, and warmth,” and “Your nightmares, visions she’s the cause the reason for your being,”.. I feel there is a thin line that both connects and separates fear and desire 💝💝

  4. Such wonderful imagery–you do like dangerous women, even when they’re dusk personified. I imagine now dusk doesn’t come till very late at night.

  5. Oh My! I love this dark, kind of twisty poem … beautifully penned. Thanks so much for this “real” challenge.

  6. I enjoyed this new form. And you showing me how to do it well here, is so precious. If I warned you not to go see that woman on such a night, would you listen to me? I guess not, huh. I know I’d rather stay home alone. But your words in this dark world are powerful and elegant and so worthy of praise. Gosh, this is lovely. Thanks for sharing. Keep going, this only gets better and better. xoxo

  7. Bjorn,

Shoot me an email at my work email linked to this comment. I am mentoring a young writer. I just got her getting started blogging and wanted to pick your brain on prompt sites for short stories.

A lot of my old haunts are gone for short stories, and thought you might be able to point me in the right direction.

    Thanks,
    Brian Miller
