The canvas is
a drab, cumulonimbus grey,
a kind of blue,
silver lined in muted brass
we slowly slide, between
the amber bass
and lime-green wisps on skins.
let ourselves be caught in the teal
of background keyboards
but always back to blues,
the trumpet gold,
a kind of blue.
Today at dVerse Grace hosts MTB at dVerse with another prompt on synaesthesia, this time on the cross over between music and color. I thought immediately about Miles Davis and “kind of blue”.

LOVE Miles Davis and your poem is perfect!
We both went kind of blue this time, Björn, and I’m sure Joni picked up some of her later bluesy notes from Miles Davis. The colours in this are so jazzy. I love the oxymoron ‘silver lined in muted brass’ and the thought of letting ourselves ‘be caught in the teal / of background keyboards’.
I love bluesyteal kind of blues. This part is sizzling:
we slowly slide, between
the amber bass
and lime-green wisps on skins.
I love this kind of blue, this kind of music, and all the sounds you painted here, Bjorn. This prompt has certainly inspired some stunning poetry!
jazz n blues are my hues … great!
Oh, this is completely mesmerizing!
Bjorn, “So What” is the youtube song showing. This is the one you want, yes?
Yes.. the first melody on A kind of blue record
You’ve captured the color of the music well. Love “a kind of blue” it’s perfect.
I’m the only person I know who hates jazz. It’s quite an admission, but there we are. I did like the backdrop though of cumulonimbus grey, gull grey, wild seas.
My goodness this is absolutely mesmerizing, Bjorn! I love; “we slowly slide, between the amber bass and lime-green wisps on skins. let ourselves be caught in the teal of background keyboards.” 💝💝
I put a record (yes, vinyl) on just before I read this, and skipped over Miles for some Bird (Parker). Coincidence rules. Great stuff BRudberg
I loved this, Bjorn, i\t captured the essence of blues and jazz. You rocked the socks off the prompt. I chose the Blues too, some ZZ Top.
I feel this!
Miles Davis, an amazing trumpeter and one of the most important influential musicians in jazz history. A wonderful piece and tribute.
The blues are a great subject for this prompt! “The trumpet gold, a kind of blue,” is perfect. This reminds me of my time when I lived in New Orleans while my husband was stationed at the Naval Air Station. We loved listening to the music, it does bring a lot of colors to my mind with the memories, it was a colorful city!
“the trumpet gold,
a kind of blue.”
Love it!
A great poem of color and music! I liked this line…
but always back to blues,
the trumpet gold
One of my favorite songs ever. You’ve nailed it. (K)
Yes, music is a canvas. Especially this piece. Well done. 🙂
oh….the mixture of colors to musical references is fabulous! And the “we slowly slide” can refer to the trombone, lovers, dancers….oh my! I do love this one!
Excellent poetry. Creative and magical like a Miles Davis piece.
I really enjoyed this!
