Rot of September

Broken shadows across the cracked ground
frail elm trees succumb to the fall,
apples are lost from the boughs,
rodents ravage the spoil;
that’s why September
is death, rot and
remembrance
of summer
we wasted,
love we
lost

Had to write a second poem for Laura at DVerse as there were two prompts. This is a Nonet starting with the line

  1. Great to see you tackling both prompts; love the Nonet–but I think your first line has 10 syllables. No matter, your poetics are stirring.

  2. Summer wasted, love we lost, I am feeling in a melancholy mood as the season changes. So much loss this year. You have captured fall with
    the dying leaves.
