Sarek wild and vast

Say Sarek,
whisper wilderness,
talk vast and wide
scream its streams, its summer snow
its shining peaks
the paths of those who passed before;
say Akka, Pårte
Rapa willow wide.
speak glacial blue-green
trickle with the tributaries
cascade on its broken rocks.
Say Sarek, Sarek wild and vast.

  1. absolutely stunning, and wild, and awesome for the miraculous …. amazing transcription of the mind-blowing beauty of this precious, sacred space ….

  2. I was looking forward to reading your list of favourite places, Bjorn. This poem offers so much more, though. The beauty of your lyrical language made this a most resonant piece – a personal ‘best’ for me.

  3. You’ve gone with language, too, Bjorn. I love the alliteration and rhythm of ‘whisper wilderness’, the internal rhyme of ‘scream its streams’, and the images in:
    ‘speak glacial blue-green
    trickle with the tributaries
    cascade on its broken rocks’.
A place I’d love to visit!

  4. ‘the paths of those who passed before;’ … that often comes to me while roaming in ancient lands. And your choice to place that line at mid-point in the piece, I think is – perfect.
