Darkness, fantasies

In this darkness, fantasies
of bat-winged faeries flies
      (or lies),
fingertips and wings are soft
as a velvet brush.
it’s breath is cold
a rush of air
      (or not).

The swarthy clatter are its claws,
it’s the hungry fangs of it.
The it of eerie melodies,
the fancy of my fears
my darkness, fantasies.
      (I hope)

  1. Fantasies and nightmares cling together on this one. I would hope they were only fantasies too. Dark and eerie, love it 🙂

  2. This touches on those little fears which lie hidden away for the best part but resurface when least expected.

  3. “The swarthy clatter are its claws,
it’s the hungry fangs of it.” They lie silent for long periods then raise their ugly little heads… I’d rather bury my head in the sand than face them most days.

  4. Nice piece here, deliciously dark; our darkness, dark side tendencies, like our madness, in an integral part of our self. Nice to shine some light into the shadows of ID.

  5. Love the dark fantasies and deep fears specially:

The swarthy clatter are its claws,
it’s the hungry fangs of it.
    The it of eerie melodies

  6. Being fond of bats, I don’t mind the bat winged fairies. Dark fantasies, but we need the dark to balance the light.

  7. I think we could almost will anything to be real if we put our mind to it! If we believe it is so, maybe it is…yikes! 🙂 Loved this, Bjorn.

  8. So many wonderful lines I could just about quote the whole thing here, So excellently moody Björn, but uh, let’s say we keep these beasties just in your fantasies okay?

  9. In the title, I see “dark knees, Fanta seas” … you know, like the soda.

This is my favorite section of the poem:
    “fingertips and wings are soft
    as a velvet brush.
    its breath is cold
    a rush of air
    (or not)”

    Also the phrase “swarthy clatter.”

  10. Yes, there is something literally hair-raising about them. And yet they are so scared of us too, poor things. I love your contrast in the details, from soft and velvety to those nasty fangs.

  11. “Fingertips and wings soft as a velvet brush” is also my favorite line- I love the contrast of soft with the “swarthy clatter of claws” heavy/dark theme. It’s vivid imagery has me immediately engaged.
