Stockholm has one of the best ice-skating conditions around the world, and good years we can skate most of January, February and March. There are years when you can go an skates far out in the archipelago, but most years we can at least skate on the water we have 10 minutes from where we live. To go up a Saturday morning, and know that you have the possibility to do a quick round-trip, or even take the skates all the way into town is truly one of the best things about living in Stockholm.

Oooh I like frozen symphonies x
I can hear the symphony – very well done It’s probably written in the ice 🙂
How amazing to live in a such a climate. Your haiku really transports me to a world I can visit only through imagination.
The ultimate pleasure in skating is how natural it is to hold hands
Beautiful, Bjorn! I did a lot of skating when I was a child, but haven’t done it now…in years. Stockholm sounds like a skaters’ paradise.
Poetic, interesting and enthusiastic, in an infectuous way..
Bjorn, Growing up, I lived with my parents near a lake that froze over in the winter. It’s rather magical to even walk out on the ice. 🙂 — Suzanne
Ah.. but to skate .. when you learn it becomes like flying… Still no ice though.
On the other hand, skating INTO the wind produces some pretty ghastly music! 😉
Skating
Yup.. I use poles when skating against the wind.. 🙂
I’ve never been ice skating outdoors. I went once at an inside rink when I was in high school (I lived in the desert… no snow, no ice!)
Ha.. but you have wonderful winter landscapes in the mountains.. maybe there are ice there?
If it get cold enough a desert would be perfect as the worst thing to destroy ice is snow.
Very nice, looks like a lot of folks are really into skating toward a destination as opposed to going round and round in a circle.
How most lucky to be blessed! We can only wonder as we lack snows. But all is not lost as there are now indoor skating rings that youngsters can have fun at. Certainly it is not the same as in the open though! Great write Bjorn!

I so feel this. We spent many Sunday afternoons skating the Rideau Canal in Ottawa. That feeling of freedom: when you start skating and just keep going.
