camellia blood
in frosted petals clinging
before they fall
they are sighing for the boy
lost in winter silent awe
blue eyes full of frost
he walks to wonder-land
of mother’s grave
grave-lights cut across the snow
paths too heavy with remorse
melting snowflakes
blending with his salty tears
screech of iron-gate
burdened by the memories
Christmas mornings that are lost
his freezing fingers
caress the marble letters
winter wonder-land
gently falling in the snow
camellia’s blood for mom

Bjorn, You painted a work picture that I could see. Sad but lovely. —Suzanne
Some holidays bring equal measure of joy and sorrow.
Especially when you have a love one pass on a special day.
My father he should rest waited long enough as to not pass on his two married children’s wedding anniversaries….
Beautiful! An exquisitely drawn rendering of the ache of bereavement, that shivers with sadness in the cold. Very moving.
Beautiful, Bjorn — I really felt this one.
OK… one of my favs now… so much compassion in these line… truly, you’ve brought this to life.
Such a beautifully sad winter-wonderland and yet … my Dad passed in 2010 near Christmas and he wanted everyone to just keep on with the festivities he himself loved so much … but it’s not always easy. Great write.
