You are the strings that resonate on emptiness,
the timpani that syncopate my beating heart;
you are conductor’s sheets of unplayed symphonies.
Together we explore the starlit harmonies
of lightyear upon lightyear of our galaxies.
You are my only love.
You are the gentleness of silver flutes at dawn,
the horns that greet the night as sunlight slowly wanes;
you are the melodies of silent autumn walks;
you are the music of remembered summer bloom,
the cheerful shanties from a distant harborside.
You are my only love.
You are the solemn drums of winter threnodies,
the forte and pianissimo — the largo of my life.
You are my songlines through the arrid wilderness,
You are my only love.

Today Victoria will present ideas for us to use metaphors of art (painting, photography, music or anything else we might do on the side) preferably include a sample of our art. I listen to music quite a lot and visit the Symphony orchestra in Stockholm quite often, and that’s the inspiration for my metaphor.

This is beautiful, Bjorn. Your words would definitely make a lover’s heart sing.
Beautiful.
‘ the largo of my life’ ~ read many times to feel it… ~ Poem – very musical, gentle and full of love. x
It’s all lovely, but the cheerful shanties was a nice touch…music plays such a big part in our lives…and your gal is very fortunate, I’d day.
Wow, Bjorn. I love that you chose music and this reads almost like a prayer to the beloved. Music as metaphor is so well aligned to poetry. Thanks so much for this perfect example.
Bjorn, That was really beautiful, just lovely, and well written. 🙂 — Suzanne
Gorgeous and beautifully done.
Agree with Victoria, that you have composed a perfect example as your response to the prompt; fine-tuned metaphors, verse as free as music on the streets, strains bouncing off concrete canyons; a terrific poem, brother; really dug it; liked the line /you are the gentleness of silver flutes at dawn; damn fine imagery, sir.
Verse was bound by careful meter this time.. ha 🙂 Most lines are in iambic hexameter…
Ah.. the strings of the violin and other stringed instruments flow the wings of emotions without stuttered breath…
And they sing to us to enliven the nuances of emotion for us…
And i do love a symphony but in my area… none for live to hear..
But there’s always youtube.. but never the experience of being there..
Live is here..:)
Gorgeous…so glad to have stumbled upon your work.
Beautiful metaphors and association.
I can only agree that this is beautiful, Bjorn. I hope this is about your wife and that you gave this to her. It’s a lovely tribute for anyone.
janet
I just gave it to her .. and she was indeed happy..
Very nice, Bjorn. Worded very well. I am now inspired to listen to some classical on the commute home tonight.
love those silver flutes at dawn… very romantic tone in this… there is a completeness within
One of your finest! Just grand….
This is simply priceless…beautifully written, love the metaphors and it has such a nice rhythm to read. Wow! is all I can think of.
beautiful…
positively beautiful…you describe such an entrancing love; I’m a bit envious.
my songlines through the arrid wilderness…. very cool… i love music and make music but go to concerts way too seldom… love how you bring out the soothing and encouraging and loving nature of music
A beautiful love song of the heart………..
A touching love piece — I more use to occasional bite in your lyrics, it is fun to see the surrendering grateful side. (which I only let out occ. too — actually, my last piece, was not about a martial art but a new love)
This is so lovely…I especially love the line “you are the melodies of silent autumn walks”. I love those melodies the best.
There is definitely music in this love poem: it cries out to be sung!
An incredibly beautiful piece, Bjorn. I especially love the “starlit harmonies….of our galaxies” and “you are my songlines through the arid wilderness”. Brilliant imagery!
My friend this is truly beautiful poem and I love it very much.
Visual texture with colors and wow!!! I love it. 🙂
What an ardent and lyrical expression of love. Some beautiful metaphors in this. Wonderful lines of poetry with an timeless ode-like tenderness to it.
A love poem filled with musicality – the repetition of You are my only love grounds this beautifully – wonderful, Bjorn
Loving tribute to your spouse.

Great tribute to your love of music.
This is pure music to the soul. I especially love, “You are the strings that resonate on emptiness” and “the largo of my life”—-what a grand, moving opus of love.
