Reaching the Pacific Ocean I ponder. Is this really the end, or have I changed so much by the time travelling making this end is my beginning? The lead-grey sea is a border to cross; I sit down, faced with the choice of going on or return again. In reality it may not matter since I will face the rest of my life changed no matter what I choose. Let every day be the same for you my friend. Let every day be a day of pondering and see what the choices for tomorrow may be.
river of steel
meets pacific ocean –
new beginning

very profound -what a destination to reach – no wonder it feels like the end of the earth.
Ah, I love this…dipping my toes in the Pacific several years ago had a spiritual impact on me too. I love your words and can relate to the meaning I am interpreting.
Reminds me of Eliot:’In the beginning is my end. In my end is my beginning.’ >KB
Bjorn, Sounds like it’s time to stop and ponder a little longer. He sounds a bit weary. 🙂 — Susan
interesting…i am always changed by visiting the ocean…i have yet to make it across that border though…
A lovely contemplative aesthetic in this piece – like an entry in a long lost diary. Very nice writing.
I agree so much with all the comments there. They really caught it well. ‘Like an entry in a long lost diary.’ Yes, that mood is really there.
“I will face the rest of my life changed no matter what I choose”…great line.
I like this haiku a lot. Simple yet powerful.
The river of steel meeting the ocean puts me in mind of the laborers that built the rails in the western United States.
I have always loved the name Vladivostok.. for me, it seems so far away and reminiscent of a different age of cossacks and czars. You have captured a mood here, very contemplative.
awesome haiku; the challenge of newness in merging
Thank you for stopping over at my blog
much love…
Wonderful haibun (correct?)…our choices change us along the steely river flowing to the sea…feels like the edge of the world.
Very strong haibun Björn and that haiku is for sure one with multiple layers hidden it. Thank you for sharing this gem with us.
