To start a compost means to integrate yourself into the cycle of life, the reward is bountiful from flowers and vegetables. But where would my compost be without the earthworms? those faithful workers that some would look upon in disgust, or use as bait to catch the river trout. Without the earthworms my compost would be dead, my tomatoes small like the sour cherries, and the roses would be devoid of smell. Which garden can ever be a true garden without earthworms?

thank goodness for the earthworms…i have used a few to fish with…it all plays into the cycle of life…and we have our place in it…
Maybe I can ask to be composted instead of burned…
I love, love, love this post. I have composted since the 1970’s. Now living in an apartment I have a worm farm composter on my patio. I say hi to the worms every day!
I think I need some more worms.. my compost is not the most succesful yet.
Oh, that’s clever!
Thank you 🙂
A unique haibun Björn … without the earthworms our gardens would be to sad to look at … they provide us with the delicious tomatoes and other kinds of healthy food. You did honor Issa with this ‘little creature’ haibun. Thank you for being here and thank you for sharing this beauty.
Thank you.. yes I love those little critters.. (and I want more of them)
Well … there will come more little creatures
Each little one has a work to do on the Earth.
such a sweet- and thoughtful – haibun! A wonderful read. 🙂

I like to see these creepy earthworms move like girls in a fashion show. Nicely written Haiku!
This is very cute. You wrote a cute haiku about composting…that takes talent! Good job 🙂
Lovely haibun and what would we do without these worms…they make our lawns so nice and lush airing the grass with their holes and tunnels.
Bjorn, If those are your tomatoes, you must be doing something right. They look great. Earthworms are great little workers. 🙂 —Susan
I like how the fruit of the vine and invertebrate would converse!
Power to the small and very useful worms!
Getting your hands dirty and with the help of some earthworms to have such a nice harvest of tomatoes…a great way to go. Circle of life it is! 🙂
