Carpe Diem Haibun – My compost

To start a compost means to integrate yourself into the cycle of life, the reward is bountiful from flowers and vegetables. But where would my compost be without the earthworms? those faithful workers that some would look upon in disgust, or use as bait to catch the river trout. Without the earthworms my compost would be dead, my tomatoes small like the sour cherries, and the roses would be devoid of smell. Which garden can ever be a true garden without earthworms?

  1. I love, love, love this post. I have composted since the 1970’s. Now living in an apartment I have a worm farm composter on my patio. I say hi to the worms every day!

  2. A unique haibun Björn … without the earthworms our gardens would be to sad to look at … they provide us with the delicious tomatoes and other kinds of healthy food. You did honor Issa with this ‘little creature’ haibun. Thank you for being here and thank you for sharing this beauty.
