Waiting for her wolf
while hooded monkshood nod
confirming lure of virgin blood
she’s caped with wolfsbane
folded deep inside
her heart hold hemlocked secrets
and her foxgloved hands are hiding
brightest oleander vice
of bitter belladonna kisses
waiting for her wolf

You have portrayed a Little (?) Red Riding Hood with a difference, Björn. I like the way you use imagery and nature in your poem. It reminded me of a painting where the same LRRH holds a gun hidden behind her back.
Ah.. yes I think the wolf might be surprised.
Bjorn, That’s not exactly how I pictured Little Red Riding Hood. Her waiting to attack the wolf is a twist for that story. Well written. 🙂 —Susan
I’m sure she had a darker streak inside 🙂
One, if not “the” one, of the best I read from you until now. Very deep, very truthful, very dark. Many a thanks for sharing these lines.
Very grateful,
Salva
Oh thank you 🙂 the picture was very inspiring
Yes, one could read that … 🙂
beautiful portrayal of Red Riding Hood, Björn. 🙂 some speculate that the red color of her hood really signified the red of virgin blood. love it.
Oh it had to be.. and the wolf was?…
the predator after the girl’s virginity… or so they said.
I was sorely tempted to use this picture ~ I love your version of wait specially: her heart hold hemlocked secrets and bitter belladonna kisses ~ Thanks for playing along ~
It was an easy choice.. but there are many more I’d like to pick.. what a great photographer.
This seems like a rather sinister Red Riding Hood. It seems that the wolf is HER prey. Smiles.
Isn’t that how it ended for the wolf…?
def a cool re-image of little red…i like the tone you set in this…it sets it apart from the more traditional…and cool form as well….
Little Red does have a thing for the bad boys. well written Bjorn
little red is a bad-ass! Don’t let the cape fool ya, she’ll choke you with it… ha
So much truth in myth tHere is..so much myth in truth tHere as..does it matter..one way or the other..i think not..i’ve been the wolf and red robin too..it’s only the perspective..that changes…
i think…i heart…
i live.
I love this version of Red Riding Hood. She’s no victim here. She’s confident, strong. LLovve it.
I like this version of the LRRH character. No messing with this one. Well done Bjorn.
WOW, talk about a Femme Fatale – she’s deadly
Ah, a dark spin who will be the “wolf”..I always enjoy something a bit different and you have done just that..smiling..
Oooh I love the rich depth of this one.
Apparently Little Red Riding Hood has grown up, and it’s time to get revenge on that wolf. Nicely written! One possible correction… In the line about hemlock secrets… Did you want ‘holds’ instead of ‘hold’?
Stunning! Love your image choice and where you went with this….dark and intriguing.
…. perhaps we should pity the wolf this time around! 🙂
A Red Riding Hood like this beauty will certainly attract the right kind of ‘wolves’. Great lines Bjorn!
Hank
Oooh, nice! I love myself a darker twist (hence my love for crime fiction and psychological thrillers).
Poor LRRH being accosted by all the wolves. Hope she has a good set of daggers up those sleeves !
Delicious shivers reading this dark gem!
I recently read an interpretation of the tale. About interchange of identity, or shapeshifting if you like, depending where you’re arguing from. The wolf and the forester and LRR Hood and grandma all there in the woods. No relation to Robin Hood I suppose.
mysteriously beautiful!!
such a delightful dark LRRH…
Monkshood, wolfsbane, hemlock, foxglove, oleander, belladonna–Red certainly wants to be sure she gets the job done right. Such a beautiful picture of a fatal femme fatale.
this is no ordinary red riding hood…she has some interesting secrets that are sure to suprice the wolf.
methinks the wolf is in for a rude surprise…
From Hemlock to Oleander, poison is on this Siren’s mind. I’m uncertain of the lure of virgin blood, but this lady isn’t offering!
riding hood with a twist.. very nice:)
Oh my oh my, Björn… I do like this incarnation of Ms. Red Riding Hood. Me thinks Sir Wolf is in for quite the surprise.
beautifully dark. loved this.
Interesting tie in between the wolf, red riding hood and monks. So strange mentioning oleander poison and hemlock, all so devious. Not the only one to mention oleander.( Of late.) EErie!
