Carpe diem haibun – autumn’s first leaf

The first sign of approaching fall is a clearness in the water. Algae that normally makes water opaque have gone to rest deep in the sediments below. I sit and let my eyes follow the silvery dance of the fish shoals, and with delight I sip from the coffee I brought.

as autumn’s first leaf
come leisurely falling down
water-mirror cracks

vattenspegeln bryts

  1. We are far from autumn, but I have noticed each morning that the temperatures drop by a point or two (F). I love the change of season, though–autumn always makes me wax poetic. Beautiful Haibun.

  2. The mood of summer’s departure is definitely felt through every line… Beautifully written. And, just like Jazzy – I also don’t know Swedish but enjoy seeing it here. 🙂

  3. Such a beautiful and peaceful image, but please can the trees hold on to their leaves a little longer?

  4. What a gorgeous haibun Björn … i wasn’t aware that the algae go into a kind of hibernation as summer departs … I can’t read Swedish, but it’s a joy to try it and i enjoyed the sound of it. Yes … I have tried to read it out loud … Thank you for sharing this gem with us,

  5. coffee and nature…does it get any better?
i love autumn…and it will soon be upon us…we are already gettting
the crisp mornings…love waking up to it…

  6. Loving that moment when the falling leaf shatters the clear reflections of the water — and also loving playing with the sound of your writing in Swedish. It’s been wonderful to “read” (or at least sound-out) the various posts in everyone’s original language — getting a better feel for each writer. 🙂

  7. I enjoyed this, Björn, as autumn always brings me back to our times at the lake, a few weeks left of sailing, the lake is clear, the winds stronger…now I know why the water is so clear too …this was very interesting.
