whisper of leaves –
clumsy pine-marten
sees squirrel’s flight
forest snag –
trace of fire feeds
wolf lichen
under gallows’ tree –
the moss-pillow’s softness
stings my skin

The forest prompt brought many thoughts into my head, mainly all the stories a forest could tell, today and of the past.
This summer I visited a really old forest, where dead pine-trees had been standing for many years. Wolf lichen — so rare and beautiful could be found everywhere, as where numerous traces of forest fires from many years back.

Lovely haiku! The first one is my favorite. Amusing yet very resonant to human feelings. =)
This breathes literature! Very literary haiku – the last one unfolds in layers….
Wonderful response Björn… i like how you’ve brought in your own experiences in that forest. Thanks for being part of this family of haiku-poets.
These are all powerful — but I can see the last one as the opening to a great Gothic novel 🙂
Bjorn, Lovely and interesting. 🙂 —Susan
Gallow’s tree, moss-pillow – death metaphor perhaps for a dying man? Beautiful stuff as ever – a real treat.
cool to be among the old wood and see things like that bjorn…i imagine we will be seeing quite a few of your nature poems the next couple months after your vacay.
Just a little noise and things move. It startles the squirrel! Nicely Bjorn!

Thanks for teaching me two new things, I went to the link for ‘snag’ and looked up wolf lichen.
Ah yes the stories the forest could tell. 🙂
