memories of air like glass

she’s carried lightly on the wings of dreams
and floating tenderly on sky like glass
above the verdancy of sprouting grass
she’s swaying softly in the land of beams

he’s clumsy, and caress with callous hands
and shattering her sunbeams with his axe
to turn her to companion on his tracks
a slave that listens to his harsh commands

she has forgotten all except her name
at night she rubs the memories in vain
but find her days just filled with darkest pain
he whispers lies to bind her down in shame

but deep inside she knows that she will float
a day when she has cut her captor’s throat

  1. Who cares what it’s called if it works like that! Beautiful poem (are you getting tired of hearing that yet? ;))!

  2. Reminds me much of the current news and of the women held captive for eight to ten years, that finally were freed.

Too many women, men, elders, children… fall into such traps.
Glass the solid liquid… or the myth of it:

I guess it depends on how scientific you want to get 🙂

Thanks for stopping by a Sonja segment.

  3. Bjorn, Almost everything’s been said. There was great contrast here between the gentle beginning and dramatic end. You can tell that anger is rising in her. This perfectly describes the physical and mental abuse so many woman suffer—Susan.

  5. The last two lines gel this piece perfectly together. This is so poignant to me. I had a very abusive first marriage in all respects, and it’s not so rare to envisage murdering the bastard who’s been dishing it out. Thankfully, the laws have changed and ‘domestics’ are taken very seriously since the days I was a very young mum in the early 80’s.

  6. She carried the sadness alone yearning to get justice. Life can be unfair for the unfortunates! Very realistic Bjorn!

  7. Any man who is cruel & uses despotic tactics to disparage his victim will one day in some way meet his end and if that is by way of knife to neck, then so be it. Sometimes the system fails the victims of abuse and sadly for some this is the only way that they can survive. I thank God everyday that I am blessed with a loving husband. A very powerful Magpie
