Once soaring high – Villanelle for Magtales.

on vulture’s wings, once soaring high
where meadows where, just ash remain
as memories are on display

for sake of progress you can buy
to sacrifice and have it slain
the vulture’s wings, once soaring high

in aluminum you’re set to fly
consuming earth within that plane
as memories are on display

and down below our planet dies
humanity will be the bane
of vulture’s wings, once soaring high

you listen as the mountains cry
with blood-rain in relentless pain
as memories are on display

my aching throat is sore and dry
but still you say there’s more to gain
from vulture’s wings, once soaring high
when memories are on display

  1. Feel the hope here…maybe making new positive memories..if we will ~ very cool form ‘Villanelle’ – very musical, knowing your voice I hear it 🙂

  2. I’m always knocked sideways by anyone who can write a villanelle and double points for one where the content isn’t sacrificed to the style. Lovely! Thank you for commenting on my Magpie 🙂

  3. Love the juxtaposition of the primordial bird in the sky pinned against the modernity of the aluminum plane in the sky as “down below our planet dies”. You write awesome Villanelles, Björn. I have just finished writing one (so taken – and inspired – as I was, by your “The Veils of Our Mirrored Maze – Villanelle”). They are very tricky and, as you have (once again) blown me away, with this one, my little attempt will remain in hiding – awaiting some (considerable) fine tuning, I think.

    • Before writing my first Villanelle I wrote a lot of triolets.. They have the same challenge, but are much easier. What’s difficult is to get that repeated line adopting into the new meaning each time it’s used…

  4. I love this form… and ‘memories on display’ is beautiful! You write incredible poetry, Bjorn!

  5. Tough form to play with with but you seem to have captured the foreboding mood of the piece well

  6. Great work on the form together with creative imagery and judicious language give this lovely piece a strong message. Nice Björn.

Memories are not just a passing fancy. Memories can certainly be a guide in times of loss
