O’er people’s dwellings
three descend
of Mögthrasir’s maidens,
the sole Hamingiur
who are in the world,
although with Jötuns nurtured
(from Vafþrúðnismál)
It is said that our three of life is protected by three maiden giantesses, called the norns, They make sure that the ashen tree that carries the world, we call Yggdrasil is watered from the well of fate. We call these three norns Urðr (Wyrd), Verðandi and Skuld, and they protect the children of the earth. They are terrible in strength and deep in wisdom. So even if they are related to the giants who the gods are at war with, these norns have the blessing of Odin. In the tree above lives the giant squirrel Ratatoskr, carrying messages to the top of the tree.

protecting Yggdrasil –
bless us all

OH I LOVE THIS! I loved what you taught me. Thank you! You didn’t mention the hawk who seems to be speaking to the squirrel. I love mythology.
The eagle with no name… oh yes.. there are a lot of interesting creatures living there…

Thank you for a taste of your mythology! I too would love to know about the hawk, or is it an eagle?
Love Norse mythology
Thank you Björn for this wonderful extra information about ‘your’ tree of life. Nice response on our musical prompt for today. I like how you’ve brought in the Norwegian mythology in this one.
