It is said that our three of life is protected by three maiden giantesses, called the norns, They make sure that the ashen tree that carries the world, we call Yggdrasil is watered from the well of fate. We call these three norns Urðr (Wyrd), Verðandi and Skuld, and they protect the children of the earth. They are terrible in strength and deep in wisdom. So even if they are related to the giants who the gods are at war with, these norns have the blessing of Odin. In the tree above lives the giant squirrel Ratatoskr, carrying messages to the top of the tree.
