November was like a dreaded fruit
whose poison gave me apathy
November was like a goblins fist
that brought me this melancholy
November was like a desert walk
in stinging sulphur alchemy
November finally is over now
advent relieves me of its agony
Kerry introduce us to the wonderful poetry of Chistina Rossetti at imagenary gardens with real toads, and to me it was a new experience. Wonderful poems, and as I like classic forms quite a lot I thought I give it a try. I really liked the piece A birthday. Written in form of a ballad. I wrote the first stanza. And after thinking I thought it worked quite well as it is.

Oh my goodness! I love November! But for you I am glad for December … a lovely ballad.
Thank you Liz. November is my worst month.. and the entry into December bring some bliss.
I am most GLAD for you.
nice..advent is a nice break, the season of anticipation…of light pushing back the darkness…yes, other than thanksgiving there is little of november….smiles.
Without Thanksgiving .. advent is what we have here in Sweden.
Oh,how sad that November was so dark and sad but glad you have some respite now Bjorn:-)Need I add this is another wonderful poem by you?You simply rock 🙂
Oh thank you.. so appreciated. I love to try my hands at different styles.
Yes I see that -I just went back to the link you mentioned-your ballad so inspired me-like you,am new to all these poetry forms too though I have always loved poetry and Christina is a hot favourite.I will read up more tomorrow and see if I can possibly write something sensible-its very late now-2.30a.m here-have a long day ahead tomorrow-sigh!Tc and have a wonderful day/night Bjorn:-)
This is EXACTLY how I feel about November. Love this!
a .. November is like a vampire that drains your blood…
I like this a lot Bjorn–it’s really an excellent use of the form, and a biting, effective poem as well, while keeping some of the lyricism that Rossetti exemplifies. Nicely done, and I agree with the sentiment as well–November and December are my least favorite months in the year.
Thank you .. I really loved the poem A Birthday.. just went a little darker.. some of the metaphors or even conceit in that poem are actually quite excellent.
I love how you did yours~ November haunts me more than October-you captured this essence-so well!
It must get really dark and cold there in November. I’m glad for you that December is here and now you can enjoy the holiday. Well penned 🙂
This flows beautifully! I love the rhyme words you chose and I’ll have to give the Ballad another look, I like that form! Well done, Bjorn!
Oh, this is excellently done, Bjorn. The repetition creates a sonorous echo to underline the melancholy and each image you have used takes the reader deeper into the darkness of the month, until advent lightens the load at the end. I am so please that you enjoyed the poetry of Christina Rossetti – she is often overlooked, walking as she does in the shadow of giants.
a good job Bjorn…..i can truly visualize november in Sweden in your lines….love your word picture….. november is beautiful here(India)…..
I agree! Very nice picture!
