The recent news about refuges from Syria drowning in the waters in overfull boats. Desperate to escape the war and prosecutions. Far away across the dark sea lures a Europe were there’s hope of a new life. Many drown before they get very far, and they are rescued for imprisonment and sent back to the wars of Syria, knowing that they have lost their loved ones to the depth of the dark Mediterranean sea. This is going on every day and we are probably powerless to these examples of human misery. But I’m sure that despite the labels we might want to put on these people we can never erase the fact that they are part of humanity.

Reblogged this on The Arkside of Thought.
Tender… and sincere writing.
Reminded me of a statement from a book- “Is there any way out of this labyrinth of suffering?” I have sought an answer but it hasn’t come to me yet.
I cannot agree more… to me the lighthouse of Alexandria evoked the thoughts of these refugees…
Amazing how you used a current event as the basis for your haibun. Very moving.
Thank you.. yes there has been some very moving talks on the radio here.
I agree with the comments above. Very touching.
Very moving Haibun…and this is so true!
It’s true, beautiful and honest and hopefully someday things will get better for the Syrians and for all human beings suffering.

I have pressed it on wordpress … this is such a painful and sad post … I ask myself … why do humans do this to their own people … Maybe … one day … peace (and new hope) will rise …. like the lighthouse which stands for a save return …. Thank you Bjorn.
so poignantly beautiful !!!
You are right – and this is so very real and sad.
Nice piece of work, like your blog.

All refugees…their plight breaks my heart. Risking death for freedom. You let yourself go right into that place.
So few words and so much said. This is heartbreaking.
so well written Bjorn – and the sadness of it all is we read, hear and see news accounts but feel helpless as we cry out, why?
Very poignant.
Beautifully written on a heart-wrenching topic.
This makes me weep…so sad.
