Redemption was mine to lose
As I looked at the worn space of where you were
The cost of living is to die a little each day
Some days cost more than others
Some rare days pay back

The fires within that had brought us together
Feeding our dreams and desires
Combusting ever brighter, mesmerizing
Are now mere embers
Settling in opposite corners of the grate

The flickering light reveals smiling strangers
trapped in worn frames on bedimmed walls
An unfinished tale of who we once were
Long ago when we were constant
When all was luminous and within reach.

With voices charged with electricity
and the sulfurous vapor we viciously exhale.
As tensions of a buried dragon waits to come forth
In crimson rumbling from within we wait
for a volcanic destructiveness.

But that was once, but is no more.

  1. I read the entire poem, Bjorn; but I think the first stanza is exceptional. So true that ‘some rare days pay back.’ I am very impressed with how well you and the other collaborate & together come up with some profound thoughts.
