Excellent!
We’re on the same wavelength today. I love the idea of a blissful red death.
Or escape from pain. Morphine, used wisely, can be balm for suffering.
Oh… what an end. Who wouldn’t want to lie forever in the lap of poppies!?
Ah…sweet oblivion.

very poignant haiku of the yin and yang of poppies ~ thanks, carol, xo
Funny, the first thing I thought of was the poppies in the “Wizard of Oz”
I think they in turn are connected to morphine…
Interesting – especially with the morphine connection. You went with the poet’s mind after that theme Bjorn…. I think for British people culturally the red poppy has a huge significance of course of blood and war, which makes your haiku all the more interesting.
Ah, my thought were with the morphine, but somewhere I knew the connection between poppies and war.. and I was well aware of the famous Rondeau by Canadian poet John McCrae “In Flanders Fields ”
In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.
We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders fields.
Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.
I have written a few rondeau’s myself and this one is always a measure.
Thanks! Putting alongside your haiku gives nice flavours, and shows there is evermore in your 3 lines – thus my poet comment, I knew there had to be!
Deep and meaningful. Release from sufferings.
Thank you 🙂
Brilliant and profound! Beautiful take on “magic fields”
in blissful death
I dream of the poppies
that lie above
Ah that is another take… almost like “In Flanders Fields…”
powerful and profund
Yes, the dangerous side of poppies. There’s always another side to beauty.
The fields of poppies in Italy are such a beautiful memory and I so relate to your last thought. Yes… Beautiful haiku.
I like the interaction between you and Pirate.
