Kate’s new job – Friday Fictioneers

First let me apologize for last week. I didn’t have time to go through so many of the great entries, I visited my mother and went to a 50 years birthday’s party. I hope to be able to be better this week.

The idea for this week’s entry struck immediately and this week I try a little dialogue (not my strong side).

Friday Fictioneers is a wonderful group of bloggers from around the world who every week gather to write a story of 100 words (more or less). If you want to know more, go to Rochelle Wissoff-Fields page and check it out. If you only want to check out the great stories click the little blue guy at the bottom.

It had worked like clockwork, they were hired as “two”, and she was so happy that he was not part of the “twelve” team. The space was limited and it was now getting populated

She asked her accomplice :

“How come you were hired for this job?”

“Released from prison”

“Oh” Kate tried to move sideways, “how long were you in jail for?”

“20 years”

Kate moved a little further away and whispered:

“For what?”

“Rape and murder” he smirked – looking at her cleavage.

Kate realized that her new job, running the two o’clock hour symbol, had its drawbacks.

  1. Her comment sounds like an understatement. I hope they’re not at the top of the ladder–that location would provide the ultimate fear factor for her situation (people have been known to jump under those conditions).

  2. That’s quite an inconvenient situation. I can see her filing a sexual harassment suit in the shortest possible time.

  3. Bjorn you should never hesitate to spend timne with your mother. We are an understanding bunch and know life is going to come before our carefully crafted 100 word gems. We can always take a free day and rummage through the old Friday Fictioneers from time past.

I thought your dialogue worked just fine. You have no reason to worry.

  4. With the direction the clock is facing, it must be so that the arriving aliens can tell whether or not they’ve arrived on time. 🙂 As for the birthday party and mom, you have your priorities exactly right. Even though we bloggers tend to get caught up in our blogging, writing and photography, people are always more important and we think more of you for knowing that, too. 🙂

  5. There is a certain dose of dark humour and fatalism there she might have felt, but also a crushing fear take over. Well-penned.

  6. It really is lucky she wasn’t on the “twelve” team with him!!! BTW, so happy you got to visit with your mother. Hope your summer continues to be filled with love! (Is it still considered summer in Sweden?)

  7. Dear Björn,

No doubt Kate will think about looking for another job or at least report her coworker for harassment.

As a mother with grown sons, I’m sure your appreciated the time spent with you. 😉

    Shalom,

    Rochelle

  8. Poor Kate. The jobs one has to take nowadays!

I thought ‘clock’ too, looking at this picture.

If I’ve not said it before, Björn, thanks for introducing me to Friday Fictioneers. It’s a lot of fun. I’m going to be Away From Keyboard for three weeks now (cat-and-house-sitting at an Internet-free location in Munkedal), but I’ll be back!

  9. He might be teasing? No. Oh well. Very well told – you packed a lot in with your very good use of dialogue.

  10. Doesn’t sound too promising but then we’re not told much about Kate……..Great take on the prompt Bjorn. Hope you enjoyed the birthday party and I’m sure your mum was delighted to have you visit her.

  11. yikes.. i had a coworker once, in my first job, who was creepy like that and i told him to stay the hell away… and to think that he’s now a lawyer.lol entertaining story and interesting conversation 🙂

  12. Hmm, don’t have time to go through all the comments so forgive it this is a repeat…

Looks like ‘time’ wasn’t on her side.

Thanks for your visit. Goats in an abandon graveyard, not so bad. Don’t have to pay the lawn mower…
