I always wondered why
the Princesses are cute
and brave and charming
while the Princes
are like cardboard figures
devoid of character
I would even go as far
and for the world exclaim:
“O Snow white, please
that prince is such a bore
you’re even better of
to marry Grumpy”
“And Belle my dear
that Beast you had
was so much better
before than afterwards”
“And Sleeping Beauty
I see you yawn
and go back to sleep
in company
of such a man”
“And Cinderella,
in your poverty became
a gold digger of sorts
and hopefully you got
a favorable prenup”
“But Jasmine
you were wise
and found a boy with spine
a selfmade robber
made your joy”
“And Brave decided
once for all, to wait
until she found the man
that she could love
(and I doubt his royalty)”
Today at dVerse Poetics Maru wants us to be inspired by Disney characters. I will be late into the pub, as I’m at a 50 year’s birthday party. But the pub opens as 3 PM EST as usual.

ha. we both tackled the princesses…smiles…ha, i think the beast was better before…maybe its cause i have a beard…ha…yep, i like jasmin’s choice…a risk taker more than pampered…and brave may be the smartest…waiting to find one worthy…that i think is a very good idea…smiles…fun analysis bjorn…
Ha, Bjorn, this made me smile. You may have a point about the differences between Disney princesses and princesses. Actually of the princes, my favorite is Ariel’s prince…Prince Eric. Very persistent and romantic, not to mention I love the song “Kiss the Girl.” I smiled about Beast being better before than after. A bit too hairy for me in the before. LOL. But different strokes……ha ha.
see..this is what i say… i prefer a robber to a prince…anytime…smiles..
I loved this! I must admit I have never cared for the princesses. The whole “save me” thing makes me grrrr. I prefer to find a knight or man who will fight along side of me. Brilliant and cute piece.
this is really nice I like it because you took a chance and it worked. good work when you get some time stop by………perfectblack
Oh ! the fairy tales that made me sleep
were suppose to be boring indeed
otherwise I would remain alert
and that would be a situation
no one would be prepared
How charming of you to say those words back to the princesses Bjorn ~ Jasmine and Brave are my favorite ones, they got the guts and boldness to find their own path & loves ~ Have a lovely weekend ~
Like this. Have the same complaint when men characters in fiction or sitcom are carboard caricatures. I realize we’re suppose to suspend belief but come on give a gal a guy she’d really want and one who has a pair! lol
For me, this underlines the importance of looking beyond appearance, of balanced characters. Can’t help but think you’ve hit some wise points here, Bjorn. Who want’s boring?
haha Björn, you’re SO RIGHT on this one! love what you did here… ha. thanks for the chuckles!
Well at least Belle didn’t want Gaston! Ha! Lol 🙂
hahaha. You are right! Never really noticed that before because the focus was on the female. I LOVED Brave! The perfect message for young girls. Disney making all their princes with chiseled looks may have contributed to choices based on physical characteristics. Those of us who are happy with our choices knew to look inside first 😉 Of course I love your writing.
I dunno, all of them seem pretty two-dimensional to me. Not a huge Disney fan… But well done, Bjorn, you capture the essence of the princes.
This post totally made my night. Very well done and I like your take/analysis on the princes and princesses of Disney 🙂
Nice advice to all the princesses
The princess is only allowed to want the prince that wants her first. Its a rule. He falls for her beauty and awakens her. That’s who she gets. I thought “Happy” looked pretty good to me. A bit on the short side, but a great personality. 🙂
A real scene of actual princesses
A wonderful round-up of all the charming lasses. It’s good they chose not looking at looks! Everyone has a fighting chance! Nicely Bjorn!

A lesson in relationships for all the princesses! K
I love your observations of the princes. I hope future princesses pay attention and pick a prince with substance. Enjoyed reading this.
Great characterizations!
Great study of the princes and princesses…one could go on and on about the cultural times now compared to when a lot of those were written…and by whom 😉
Maybe the animators preferred drawing buxom girls more than effete snobs? Plus, I’d guess the guys just talk horses and battles. Women are way more interesting. Nice pen, Bjorn. ~ M
Interesting thoughts. I always thought those chicks were gold diggers. I mean they always married handsome, rich royals. What’s up with that?
I never before thought about how most of the “princes” were utterly I memorable… That’s a whole ‘nuther poem…
or utterly non-memorable…
