I’m jaundiced, yellow scared to hell
to pose a question for your heart
so I withdraw behind my shell
why cannot Amor send a dart?
I’m verdant green with jealousy
I see you kiss another man
your smile at me was fallacy
I should have had another plan
I’m crimson red with anger now
what does he have that I have not?
you should have seen you silly cow
that he is fat and I am hot
I’m sad and blue ‘cause I have failed
you never understood my love
my feelings never I unveiled
and now i curse to god above
I’m black and dead inside today
I missed my chances as you left
how could you leave and us betray?
I’m all alone and feel bereft
I’m white and ready once again
a canvas to be colorized
from love I can no more abstain
and girls I now characterize
I’m yellow, jaundiced scared to hell
….
Tonight it’s Open Link night at dVerse. Pub opens at 3PM EST. Join and have fun. I will join with this little rhymed tetrameter. Mostly fictional, but I was extremely shy when young.
the shy ones are dangerous…or so im told:)
have a great time…waiting for adventure..a day or two sees me home !
Good for you, and thanks for visiting.
Neat tie-in with the colors … they vividly describe your emotions in a trying, emotional experience.
I liked to play with colors.
Express thyself and run the risk of rejection either way! No orange, indigo or violet, but you covered the spectrum of color quite well without them 🙂
I think that’s just those colors that would make us successful 🙂
the blending … merging of colors does make things more interesting. Back for Open Link Night… and reread the poem. Oh, youth and “love” … it wasn’t so easy, that’s for sure!
I liked your play with colors, Bjorn. It is interesting how many times our moods are described by the use of colors. Love the white and ready to be colorized again. Makes me realize no matter how we feel at one moment our ‘color’ can be different the next moment!
I think no matter what there are times to start with a white canvas..
Very nice color play.
Thank you.. Only bright colors today.
awww..that made me smile…what a charming write…ha…like how you use color for the emotions and being shy is not easy for a guy me thinks even though (and psssshhhh that’s a secret) girls DO like shy guys – i always liked them more than those that thought the world (and all the girls within of course) belongs to them…ha
Shyness went away at one point, but I recall the feeling of being passed over by those cool guys… 🙂 When you are young it feels like life is over.
really cool trip through the colors bjorn….nothing wrong with being scared as hell at times either…always try to make it back to white….start fresh and take on the new colors…as oft as i can…
I agree.. I liked the image of life as a canvas and played on the symbolic value of colors.
& I am still a big fan of tetrameter.
Like the play of colors Bjorn ~ I can empathize with being shy as I was a shy kid before ~ Good work on the tetrameter form too ~ I mostly go for couplets or tercets ~ Have a good day ~
I have gotten so used to ABAB quatrain… as they fit perfectly inside a tweet… I sometimes write three to four a day in various wordgames
Nice extended metaphor use.>KB
Thank you 🙂
I really like “I’m verdant green with jealousy.” It is such a nice juxtaposition of metaphors! Great job.
Indeed… verdant is such a positive word usually.
oh, colorful – we all know the pattern too well, i am sure. it’s a good thing that we get a clean canvas though… let’s not continue with yellow again.
great work on rhyme & texture
Great way you used the colors here…I like the white canvas..starting all over again.
Ah! I love the play of the colours here and well, the canvas is cleaned again to begin again and again and again….:)
Very clever use of colors and canvas! Excellent ending to start with white again:-)
Quite a color wheel here of moods and stances–I like the white canvas, waiting to be colored in again best, I think.
Your colors dance
with circumstance
but perhaps, perchance
your just a tiger in a trance
beware that sexy glance !! Great poem Björn !!!
Ha,
I’m probably a vicious wolf
all dressed up in skin of sheep
Somehow, I tripped into your introspection, and peeked inside the poetic machine, where the chakra colors create imaginative insular
rainbows; nice ride, sir.
I really like your play with form and how the colors were abstracted into life from the painting.
smiles… he IS fat and you ARE hot.
The color scheme in this is fascinating – the story all too real for so many people.
Great sense of emotions attached to these colors and I love the canvas
Wow, vivid display of colors here..an emotional piece that made me weep..when a love doesn’t understand..sometimes we need to come out from the veil then we will know where we stand..I don’t know what else to say as I am caught with the verses..an emotional roller-coaster here with the lines.
Great use of colour.
And, a lot of this, well, it’s like looking in a mirror. Little spooked.
the colour of emotions, a wild ride!
I wrote in colour today, in honour of rainbows
An absolute montage of color and emotion, entwining so well together! It brings back so many memories of my younger years when jealousy tended to rule my heart. At 18 I dated a most beautiful young woman who kissed me one starry wintry night on a cobblestone street, while leaning back against a snow covered ageless brick home occupied by some unknown sleeping, peaceful family at 2 or 3 a.m…. It was in a small German berg. That kiss was miraculous. I felt as though I was floating above the ground. She and I did a lot of other physical things as well during that year or so of our lives, for sure I remember that fondly too. But that kiss, oh, that kiss. That was meant only for me…… And I’ve kept it along side all my other special things for these many years. I don’t know what eventually happened to Monica, where she is today. I know she dated other guys after we split, and I was jealous for a minute. But then I realized I’ll always have a piece of her with me, where ever I go. Like with Kim Rodandello, my Darling Anna, fun-fun Rhodie, Michelle, Shelley, Vicky, and on and on and on….. Life’s canvas is painted so vividly with color…. True that, friend….
Bjorn – quite the weft and warp you weave. Really liked the pace and how you keep each stanza intact. A good write. ~ M
Well so glad you got back to the blank canvas…even so scared oh the chance to dabble in the colours of life never to be missed…I do love how you bring this full circle… Loved it…loved it! Now let’s grab a paintbrush!!! 🙂
Made me smile, and the rhythm is gonna get ya…
I have to say, you had me chuckling, laughing out loud, enduring your anger. I really enjoyed a romp through your emotions here – and was hoping that it was not autobiographical. I think that the colors chosen matched well the emotions. That was clever.
Bjorn, really liked the progression thru color and emotion – very cool – and esp loved the last stanza – K
A nice ride on a rainbow of emotions, gladly ending in a blank canvas.
…aww… in love you don’t play with colors… you play with the models… & the true artist is not the one who holds the colors but the one who brings color to all our senses / mind & heart… but then, no one painting is ever complete for models (the true artist) do fade & die… smiles…
You tell an engaging story. This is brilliantly written and skillfully rhymed.
Great job!
Playful, I like it. I adore the way love makes us act like five-year-olds, while still remaining in a more grown-up melancholy. Third stanza was my fave. Thanks for the read! This brought a smile to my face. Remember that you can always mix colors to make new ones, or just clean the canvas with a bucket of water ~_^
A whole palette of emotions.
The interplay between color and emotions is one of my favorite things both in writing and in art. I use it often and this poem was so well-crafted with keen interpretations, as I see it.
This is just so cool and imaginative. Wonderful.
Bjorn, that third stanza made me laugh out loud. A very colourful emotional write here.
Pamela
Good for a chuckle
🙂
NIce playing with colours and their associated emotions. I loved the red stanza; itmade me laugh.
A colorful write, and there’s nothing wrong with starting anew with a clean slate.
Our emotions do paint us in different hues and they do cycle. I like the repetition of the first line to show that cycle back to the beginning. What a powerful line it is.
This is hilarious: “you should have seen you silly cow
that he is fat and I am hot”
A play with colors and emotions…. beautiful!
I love the extensions of colors and textures with emotions
These rendezvous of love are a fickle game we must play, knowing of possible hurt to follow…
Love the ‘silly cow’ too – so apt of feelings engendered by those so blind they fail to see what they have lost! :o]
Love your words Björn.
Anna :o]
I really enjoyed the tie between colours and emotions, but the lines ‘you should have seen you silly cow/ that he is fat and I am hot’ had me smiling the most.
Enjoyed the prosody here, Bjorn, and your discipline in the use of (mostly iambic) tetrameter and the rhyming scheme. Also like the colour theme, the canvas of failure.
Thank you 😉
