My Neighbours fence

The following poem is just my imagination.

I hear a menacing wind
playing songs of sorrows
on the barbed wire strings
of neighbours fence

my starving cows will die
after the long cold winter
see rich grass on other side
of neighbours fence

I built a coffin for a child
a sacrifice to winter days
with thaw of spring, a hole
at neighbours fence

but still I feel the strength
of spring returning
nurture grass also on this side
of neighbours fence

and I see my neighbour
as he digs his wife’s grave
I take my shovel and cross
my neighbours fence

  1. I really enjoyed this one, especially the evocation of sound on the wires in the first part. Also the inclusion of the word “my” before neighbors fence at the last because the man finally knows that he and his neighbor were more together than he realized. This is definitely one to save.
