Finally made partners – Trifecta story

This week’s Trifecta challenge is to use the word

3: trance; especially : a mystic or prophetic trance

So let’s join a little initiation rite.

The lawyers looked alike in their black suits, perfect whitened dentures and tans that you can only get with a golf-handicap of less than 10. They all came from top law firms and had received the same invitations on thick paper with embossed letterheads.

They presented themselves one by one, and after a standard retina scan they were allowed to enter the pentsuite elevator. The promises to capture legal affairs making it possible for them to take early retirement, made them accept even the humiliating security search and deep probing of hands covered by latex gloves.

The silence in the elevator was so loud it almost broke them down, but no one dared to show any such insecurity.

As they reached the penthouse they were met by beautiful hostesses that attached to each of them with feline affection. Somehow the lawyers were easily convinced to accept a drink that burned like fire, but made them warm and relaxed, and the smiling hostesses convinced them to accept yet more drinks.

The smooth lounge music increased in intensity and they were all so easily coerced to dance, and to the beat of technodrums the lawyers were moved to such ecstasy that they undressed until they were completely naked, dancing with ferocious intensity.

Now the beautiful hostesses had been replaced by burly men, and someone had lighted a fire in the middle of the room. In the flickering light the nude lawyers chanted as a giant man entered. Willingly they let them be marked with branding irons. They each now had the number 666 forever marked on their chest.

Finally they were now accepted as partners in the law-firm of their dreams, they would be successful in life beyond their wildest dreams, and each of them thought that they could negotiate a deal on a deathbed to come.

But the big man knew. They would never succeed. Goethe’s lies in the Faust story was his best marketing success ever. They belonged to him now – forever.

  1. Amazing opening line, and one feels a lack of sympathy for these lawyers to be, whose greed is so full of symbolism here! Wonderful stuff, written “in style” of topic. this line – ‘the lawyers was moved to’ think ‘were’. Great stuff Bjorn.

  2. So well written, Björn! And you ventured where I wanted to go but didn’t know if okay. Obviously creepy at this level is good. Your first few paragrapsh I could absolutely see in my mind…so vivid. A little correction in next to last paragraph: parters partners?

  3. Hahaha Sounds like some has had a nasty run-in involving lawyers? Visions of Jack Nicholson and Robert De Niro. And entrancing them with smooth lounge music… perfect!

  4. I was on edge, wondering how this would end! You set up a perfectly chilling scene. Good read!
