Carpe Diem Haiku – Yanagi (willow)

Carpe Diem kigo of today is Yanagi (willow). And looking for artwork I found this absolutely fantastic Van Gogh painting of pollard willows. murder also mean a flock of crows. And what better day than today to use him, as it is his 160th birthday today as pointed out by Alex Barton

pollard willows
against a crimson sky
murder cawing

desolation
willows just like skeletons
walking to her grave

  1. What a wonderful painting! I’d never seen this one. And your words were evocative of the darkness of the scene. Love ‘murder cawing.’

  3. Cool Haiku. And the explanation was fun.
I did not know that was Van Gogh — not what I expect from him.
