winter’s grip – cinquain for dVerse

To be posted at dVerse where Tony wants us to write cinquain. I love cinquain as it merges the haiku/tanka way of composing short poetry with iambic poetry (if you want to do it that way)

In spring
the verdant world
will bloom for us again
but still the winter’s fingers grip
my throat

  1. they grip my throat as well..we had snow over here yesterday and i was trying to find out all day where spring is hiding…smiles..nicely penned björn… i guess your winters are longer than ours over here

  2. oh nice….the grip on the throat in the end adds extra emphasis…come on spring before i choke out…smiles….we lost like 40 degrees over night…

  3. …ah when you’re in cold you demand heat… when you’re in heat ypu demand cold… ha, too ironic but like the seasons these days our minds tend to be moody at times… changing unconditionally & unexpectedly… liked your demonstration of the current season in your place… smiles… enjoyed it.

Especially those really bad sore throats you get in the winter. One of many reminders of why we love spring and summer. Yeah I’m not a winter fan.

Enjoyed this but didn’t like the reminder of winter.

  5. I thought I could rely on you Bjorn, and I wasn’t disappointed. This is exquisite – the images are really tight and so effective.

  6. You are clearly from a colder clime. When you see the photos on my post, you’ll understand my perspective. In Tucson, it was 91 degrees fahrenheit today!

  7. Oh wow, powerful ending there. Made me swallow hard lol. I like the style you used here even with the form you’ve definitely created the feeling of a haiku 🙂

  8. Love the word “verdant” and the inference of being throttled by winter. I guess it is always so living in your part of the world..I can not bear the coldness for long. It would feel like death to me, too.

  9. Those last two lines really emphasize how harsh winter can be… I love this poem!! I’m hoping Spring will arrive soon for those of you still covered in snow and ice.
