Today Carpe Diem Haiku prompt is courage. I found this wonderful illustration by Elsa Beskow a Swedish children’s book illustrator and author. I think Swedish children still grow up with her books.
the courageous man
will admit the fear he has
for unknown things
~~
helping those in need
when you shivering with fear
that’s real courage
~~
against forceful arms
courage is best defended
by force of reason

Perfect… what more can I say?
Thank you Ted

I think the courageous man also admits his fear of known things
Cheers!

“helping those in need when you are shivering in fear” I really resonate with this.
What is that wonderful creature? I’ve never heard of the writer, but it looks like my childhood was missing something.
again, very wise words from you. i love that illustration. always loved children’s books, still do.
Lovely Swedish photo and haiku filled with wisdom ^_^
How true! Strangely enough, courage is prompted by acts of fear without which it may not happen. Nicely Bjorn!
Love the sentiments, and I also believe a courageous man (or woman) admits their fears. A :weak” person puts on a front to hide such fears.
Thanks for sharing.
Your last brings to mind the non- violent protests in India earlier in the last century and the American south in the 1960’s Now that took real courage.
Oh, I must be very courageous, then, for I admit my fear of the unknown! 🙂
Courage
This perfectly captures how the little boy would feel. The picture is great, what is the creature meant to be?
The creature is a traditional way of drying grass to hay. Still whim I was a kid, the countryside was filled with them 🙂
Helpers are usually always courageous people.
The Wren of Courage
intriguing construction in the hayfield..
You have really nailed this prompt, Björn! And I like the unexpected choice of illustration.
