Carpe Diem prompt today is Bell. And my thoughts goes to death and Church Bells. I found this painting “By the deathbed” by Edvard Munck. Just like many of his paintings the same motif can be found in several versions.
mournful silence
relatives pay their respect
as bell tolls for you

with church bells
through life’s all phases
’till you leave
~~
country church bells
ceremony to say goodbye
crying widow

Thanks for reminding me of church bells. I loved the village bells in France. I rarely hear church bells in the US any more.
I hear church bells much more than I see church goers here… Maybe the opposite in the US.
Nope. Neither. No bells. No visible church goers.
i like the image of sad church bells.. what first came into my mind too, instead of wedding bells of whatever ^^ here, there are definitely a great number of churchgoers — the place is positively teeming with worshipers ^^
Ah, so different, but church bells we have.
Wow! powerful and emotions poignant in your haiku ~ ^_^
Thank you 🙂
You seem to be, shall we say, obsessed with death today. Each of your offerings is a sombre reminder that one day all of us will pass through the portal that leads to…where?
Godsong Bell
Personally I can only believe in an end. But I think it’s ok to believe that there are other things waiting.
Your bells make me think of these things.
I hope it’s good in some ways.
When the churchbell sounds over the village … what will be happening there? A wedding or a funeral. Nicely written.
Church bells are there all the way.
Through life’s all phases…indeed. Another beautiful set of haiku.
Thank you. That was what popped up in I mind.
By listening to the sad tolling you can determine the age of the departed.ex: 7 tolls a pause 3 tolls = 73. It is sad that real bells have been set aside for electronic ones.
I had not heard that, and I am not sure it’s the same thing here. I know it’s real bells here, but they are operated electrically.
so true and such sadness
Sad for the one left, but could be a relief for the one leaving.
The last day of life
Such a sad day for loved ones
We all end up there

Very true ..
Sooner or later, the bell tolls for each one of us! You captured the mournfulness of those bells. Sadly, I don’t hear church bells where I am, happy or sad!
Thud! The end. Amen.
Tolling Bell
bells to usher in life events….at least those taking place in churches….
