Carpe Diem Haiku – Chiyo-ni special, flower scent

Wow what a great prompt in Carpe Diem today A haiku by Chiyo-ni, a female haiku master. Go to Kristjaan’s blog and read more about her.

the flowering branch of the plum
gives its scent
to him who broke it off

To me I read a deeper symbolic meaning of lost virginity in those words. A single woodblock by Yoshitoshi can server as illustration.

lending scent
to lover left for war
plum blossoms

single plum blossom
the smell a cherished memory
from him that left
~~
scent still linger
from him that broke it off

  1. very nice and romantic set Bjorn. Awesome as you have caught the essence of the haiku by Chiyo-ni. That second haiku is for sure my favorite. Thank you for your daily effort to write haiku and share them with Carpe Diem.
