Today Carpe Diem prompt is children. I have no children of my own… so my choice is instead the legend of the 1000 cranes and the story about Sadako Sasaki. Picture is from Wikipedia. A single haiku is enough.
thousand folded cranes
can never save the children
atom bomb disease

VERY TRAGIC, emotional…
An important messag in the cranes
felt a bit like a punch in the gut….man and his weapons….
Indeed, deeply tragic.
But the fragile paper cranes are a powerful sign of hope for a future without weapons, atomic or otherwise!
Dos Niños
Agree
Would ten thousand cranes do the job? A hundred thousand?
Children
For other children, but not for Sadako
I learn something new every time I visit, Bjorn. Today I learned a very beautiful story of one child’s life. Thank you for the story and the haiku.
if every mother’s child
folds a thousand cranes for peace
will we get our wish?
I think it’s even more important that every man fold one crane out of blueprints for weapon.
I so love that story! Never to be forgotten! Lovely haiku representing the spirit of the narrative!
It’s a lovely and sad story to always remember.
Wonderful photo and powerful haiku message ~

Thank you
You don’t need to be a parent to write about children. We were all children once. This piece is deeply lovely. I didn’t know about the symbolism of the paper crane. Thank you for this, Bjorn!
I know that, but I prefered to write about the paper cranes.
The nuclear curse keeps recurring in Japan hat with the recent Fukushima incident. Will the world learn from the Cranes?
Great work Bjorn thank you 🙂
I hope we learn from the cranes.
I did not know about the cranes
Nor about Sadako Sasaki.
Two of our granddaughters are 12.
How horrible it would be to lose them.
Your haiku is beautiful and tragic.

The origami crane is a strong symbol.
Beautiful in all the ways it touched me. Through memories, hope, also through anger and sadness…
Exactly the feelings it should give. Out of those feelings we cam change the world.
may the child and the crane be a lesson. Thank-you
A paper crane is easy to fold.
Very touching haiku Bjorn … thousand cranes can’t heal that atom bomb disease.
Thank you. We can still remember what happened, and from that we have change.
very tragic indeed! nice take on the prompt!
Thank you
This is so touching … sad and unfortunate !!!
Thank you 🙂
