She would forgive?

I took this picture on the morning after Valentine, and in my opinion it tells a story that I would like to set into a poem. If anyone else feels like write something on this picture, please just link it back here to the comment field. I almost never try free verse, so this is a little experiment. I’ve shared this poem on Poetry Pantry, which is the my first time sharing there.

despite his sins, today he would commit
she had as usual ignored his urgent calls
but deny him when he came to knock?
she would forgive

the heart shaped box he’d bought today
of favorite sweets would melt her heart
and all would be again, their happiness
she would forgive

he came again to door he knew so well
and tried the key, it didn’t work today
the private sign, he’d never cared before
she would forgive?

and at her door he began to wait for her
he called again and sent an SMS
she’d never left him standing here like this
would she forgive?

then from within he heard the special song
they played when they were making love
he took her hint and now he understood
forgive denied

he betrayed her trust a time too much
she’d shut him out, he ate the sweets
and left forever, and maybe regret his sins
forgive himself?

  1. Sometimes forgiving oneself is the hardest. I especially enjoyed your use of the question mark to convey the internal conversation in the speaker. Nicely done!

  2. A strong poem here. I think eventually there comes an end to forgiveness, and iot seems that he crossed that line and will have to live with it. I suppose at some point he must forgive himself, but it seems to me he needs to do more than that. He needs to change his ways. A thought-provoking write.

And thanks for sharing with Poetry Pantry.

  3. When someone tells us time and time again they are sorry and yet, they still repeat the same thing, sorry, in the end is meaningless.
Infidelity is such a deep betrayal of love and trust. Not only in body but, in mind too.
Very nice poem and ..nice to meet you. Enjoy the pantry.
