This week’s Visual Dare entry. A prompt for writing a 100 words story. Pictures courtesy of the prompt. I decided to write a “story” as two triolets, describing a sad young woman locked inside a statue. I try to use all pictures, but since I’m not a NaNoWriMo active, the characters could be from a future work. I’m thankful for all feedback
recalls her life as very young
now locked inside, in solid rocks
her freedom gone, her sorrows sung
recalls her life as very young
betrayal from her father’s tongue
with silence now, is how she talks
recalls her life as very young
now locked inside, in solid rocks
she hears the fountain’s soothing song
but sad and silent she remain
and no one can correct what’s wrong
she hears the fountain’s soothing song
outside in loneliness belong
from simplest joy she must abstain
she hears the fountain’s soothing song
but sad and silent she remain

Nice capture of the photos… the first, a face of promise, youthful optimism … the second, a face trapped forever, what changed, and the fountain is perfect… a sad poem…
I’m learning a lot about poetry from you, Bjõrn… I’ve nevr heard of a Triolet, much less a Double.
Thank you Ted, I learned myself on Wikipedia a few weeks ago, once you started with iambic poetry the variations are endless 😉
I am enchanted when I visit your site, not only because I’ve been learning (or perhaps re-learning) beautiful forms of poetry, but also because your imagination and word choices slightly modernize these ‘historical’ forms. Lovely, Björn !
Thank you. Yes, I like to modernize, and perhaps simplify the poems a little. Thank you for your nice comments 😉
Beautiful work. I don’t often get poetry for Visual Dare entries, but this one wraps the three photos together beautifully. Love this!
Thank you 🙂 I try to vary my entries, but these pictures just flowed together.
Very sad and beautiful.
Plus you inspired me to also try a triolet. I’d never written one before.
Cheers!

I am glad you tried, it’s really quite nice form of poetry, and it should lend itself to singing.
