For Carpe Diem today prompt rose I thought I do it a little different. One of my favorite poems all time is A Red, Red Rose by Robert Burns. I let my haiku triplet be inspired by this poem. I have attached Robert Burns poem at the end.
Picture today I took from wikimedia commons
my love a red rose
freshest sprung in early June
melody inside
~~
eternal love
until the seas gone dry
forever you
~~
love as I am gone
ten thousand miles away
will return again

A Red, Red Rose
By Robert Burns
~~~
O my Luve’s like a red, red rose
That’s newly sprung in June;
O my Luve’s like the melodie
That’s sweetly play’d in tune.
~~~
As fair art thou, my bonnie lass,
So deep in luve am I:
And I will luve thee still, my dear,
Till a’ the seas gang dry:
~~~
Till a’ the seas gang dry, my dear,
And the rocks melt wi’ the sun:
I will luve thee still, my dear,
While the sands o’ life shall run.
~~~
And fare thee well, my only Luve
And fare thee well, a while!
And I will come again, my Luve,
Tho’ it were ten thousand mile.

What a romantic set of haiku Bjorn. Thank you for sharing. The last one touches me deep … that’s true love.
What a romantic set of haiku. Very well done. The last haiku is really stunning. That one touches me deep … true love. Thank you for sharing.
Thank you Kristjaan. I thought it was interesting to use an old Scottish song as prompt for haiku.
Maybe I should do the opposite some time. Write a sonnet on a haiku prompt.
Ah, so many memories of singing this on so many Burns’ Nights. So many memories, also, of when I used to feel like your own haiku. Nice! 🙂
Have no experience of my own, but one of our own poets and singer’s Evert Taube, wrote a song that is a modernized version of this Poem. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pshzGemamgE (it’s an old recording)…
Sonnets are very beautiful.. and I would have never known about Robert Burns had it not been for you.. his work is stunning.. as well as yours! Thank you for sharing.
Thank you 🙂
Thanks for writing this romantic post.
I always said that Robert Burns had a suitable surname for his poetry is very bright and always “burns”. A coincidence: the title of my post is “Burning in love” (I chose that title before coming here, believe me)
About your passionate haiku, they are also burning following Burns’ inspiration.
I specially like this line, “until the seas gone dry.
Good idea writing a sonnet on a haiku prompt. A sonnet is the most difficult form of poetry to me; it takes me hours and hours to write one.
I will try to do a sonnet by expanding a haiku. I think it might work out. I train every day writing iambic poetry, so it goes quicker now, than it used to.
The first one was m favorite. Loved the idea of a melody inside of a rose! Very creative take on the prompt
Thank you, when I saw rose it just came to my mind to combine the poems.
Well done, Björn! I admire your artistry!
Thank you – just interesting we had the same idea – but a different poem
