This week’s entry for 100 Words Challenge for Grown-Ups. The challenge is to find a story on the significance of an orange spot.
No poetry this week but a little story that definitely is fiction. No hints, no poetry, just read :-).
I managed it in exactly 100 Words. Picture from Wikimedia Commons.
One morning someone had painted a bright orange spot on our door. Why do graffiti in this neighborhood? Angrily I cleaned it and left for work.
I noticed however a similar spot on my neighbors’ door.
A few days later we were invited to our neighbours’. The door was open with an eerie silence from within. We found a horrific scene, my neighbors all slaughtered and cut to pieces.
After years to recover from the shock we decided to move.
But clearing out our stuff, I found the can of orange paint and the bloodied axe behind the garden tools.

Great story in very few words! Eery!
Thank you 🙂
Another spooky story . . . . 🙂
🙂
Like a modern-day Passover in reverse.
That is a very interesting thought. I thought it only as a very creepy story… it deserves some thought.
oh my! A very scary piece! Sends shivers down the spine!
Good. That was my purpose this time 🙂
Such a macabre piece – so effective in so few words.
Macabre was my intention :-).
Well you achieved it 😉
Chilling piece. How interesting to read this week’s pieces to see how differently the prompt has been interpreted. Not sure I enjoyed this as it was scary, but it was very effectively done.
I just decided to go for horror this time. Usually I make it less horrific.
Wow that’s dark . . . so who did the deed?! I can see the Passover angle link mentioned by Middle-Aged Matron
There is a little hint who did it… It says the bloodied axe, not a bloodied axe…. 😉 makes it even more chilling.
was it him? in a sort of night flight fight club sort of style? *wonders*
Or maybe a little Jekyll and Hyde.
Woah did you do it?! I love a tale like this one, great stuff, thank you!
😀
Nice and dark. Suits the time of year
Thank you 🙂
OH! I didn’t see that ending coming at all. A real shocker – very well written!
He he
Am I being stupid?
If it’s a narrow escape from unknown forces, why would they leave their tools. And if it’s you or a member of your family, why would they paint your own door?
Certainly scary though.
A little memory loss and or Jekyll and Mr Hyde.. 🙂 certainly a mystery
Ooooh, I like! 🙂 Chilling!
Very I hope.
The ‘Jekyll and Hyde’ idea is a clever take on this, and the basic idea is ingenious!
Very kind of you to say so 🙂
