Abandoned shelter – Sonnet

A few day has passed since I last tried to write a sonnet. I browsed through my pictures and found this that is actually the remains of a Sami house (kåta). As the Sami where nomadic they probably stayed here only shorter times at a time. But I still felt that we has lost something in moving into our modern houses. But being November now I feel quite content to be indoors.

I pass deserted quarter in decay
Was once a place to raise a family
But children’s gone, the people’s far away
The house they had is now a cavity
~~
The wind is blowing through the room
Where once the embers heated those who left
And I can feel the chilling autumn gloom
When they’re gone away, do they feel bereft?
~~
Cause beauty of the place they had to leave
Will live inside the heart of smallest child
And in their modern concrete house they grieve
Remembering their bliss, surrounding wild
~~
Cause we are meant to stay where we can hear
the wind, and to the smell of grass be near

  1. I always felt homes humble or elegant…have feelings they convey to the people living in them. You describe this well. Good Write!
